Billy Jonas at The Belcourt

If the sainted Mister Rogers had been a one-man band—and kept some Dave Matthews records hidden away under all those cardigans—he might've resembled Billy Jonas. Formerly of the early '90s acoustic duo The Billys, the acclaimed North Carolina children's-music performer uses homemade instruments such as soup cans, oil drums and the ever-popular "Bucket of Joy" to enlist young audiences in his live performances. If your young 'un can keep a backbeat, she or he might end up playing "Pharaoh Pharaoh" to the tune of "Louie Louie" (with a few snatches of Grease's "Summer Nights" tossed in for good measure). His latest CD, Happy Accidents, just won a Parent's Choice Gold Award; for a taste of his live show, check out his many YouTube clips or his DVD Bangin' & Sangin'. Tickets for his morning "Kids Court" show at The Belcourt are $7.
