Anders Osborne w/Marc Ford

Anders Osborne

Swedish-born roots rocker Anders Osborne released two pretty good albums in 2016, Spacedust & Oceanviews and Flower Box. What I find interesting about Osborne is the ease with which he juggles the basic elements of folk rock, a style he investigates on his new full-length Buddha and the Blues. There’s nothing fancy about the music on Buddha and the Blues, and Osborne achieves his effects by simple means: He adds touches of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young harmonies to “Escape” and “The One I Love,” and alludes to The Beatles in “Smoke and Mirrors.” Buddha is an optimistic and easygoing record — anyone who can write convincingly about waking up to Martha Stewart “making something good to eat,” as he does in “Smoke and Mirrors,” has my sympathies. Osborne says he has another album in the can that he describes as being about the prevalence of depression in the current era, Deep Impressions. Opening for Osborne at City Winery will be former Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford. 8 p.m. at City Winery, 609 Lafayette St. EDD HURT
