If you’re still reeling from being stuck in a room with your MAGA-loving uncle during Thursday’s holiday dinner, head over to 3rd & Lindsley to let some of your frustration out with American Aquarium. The project of B.J. Barham, the Raleigh, N.C.-bred band put out one of the year’s best LPs with Things Change back in June. In addition to fine Southern rock, the album showcases Barham’s sharp eye for political commentary and knack for narrative songwriting. In “Tough Folks,” he sings: “When the only thing harder than the work is the luck / The outcome’s as hopeful as the evenin’ news / And last November I saw firsthand / What desperation makes good people do.” Americana singer-songwriter Scott Miller, who released a critically acclaimed LP of his own in 2017 with Ladies Auxiliary, will open.
