10 String Symphony

New musicians keep arriving in East Nashville almost every day, making even folks like Rachel Baiman and Christian Sedelmyer look like veterans just for having been here for a few years already. Though they’re both ferociously busy with other gigs (for instance, Sedelmyer plays with Jerry Douglas’ band), their 10 String Symphony collaboration has done quite nicely. The duo’s axes add up to 10 strings in various ways, so there’s more range than you might expect, and their latest record, Weight of the World, shows how they put that to good use, mingling old-time music, indie rock and more in artful and interesting ways. 10 String Symphony’s one of the few groups to showcase at both the AMA and IBMA conferences this year — here’s a fine opportunity to see why, and at greater length, too.
