Among the pages and pages and pages and, um, pages of last week's whopping Best of Nashville issue of the Scene, you'll find contributor Chris Parton's feature on locally residing songstress Lera Lynn. As noted in Parton's story, Lynn got together with famed producer T Bone Burnett — who served as music supervisor on Season 2 of HBO's True Detective — to write a fistful of slow-burning, noirish songs for the series. In addition to writing and performing the tunes, Lynn also appeared in TD, performing the songs as a spooky, wraithlike singer-for-hire in a bar frequented by Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn's characters.
"T Bone just kept saying, 'This girl is fucked up,'" Lynn told us. "'All the characters of the show are down and out. The tone of the music has to match this girl and this shitty dive she's playing in.'"
Earlier today, the fine folks at Rolling Stone Country shared a clip of Lynn performing "My Least Favorite Life," one of the aforementioned T Bone-cowritten tunes. In the video — which you can watch after the jump — Lynn is significantly less forlorn-looking than she is on True Detective, but the song is no less haunting. Give it a look.
Lynn will perform Saturday, Oct. 17, at 3rd & Lindsley. Tickets are available here.
