Cheap Eats: Nicky’s Coal Fired — Antipasti Menu

Heirloom tomato salad

For a couple of years now, I’ve been looking for a true running mate for Lockeland Table’s “community hour” of drink specials and discounted bites. I think we might have found it. Recently, Nicky’s Coal Fired — which we at the Scene named one of two Best New Restaurants in last year’s Best of Nashville issue — quietly started discounting Nicky’s antipasti menu, which includes antipasti and rotating cold and hot appetizers. Monday through Thursday, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., everything on the list is half off. Repeat: half off for some of the best bites in the city. You could go classic with some lardo, salami cotto or coppa (normally $6 each), or try something from chef Tony Galzin’s seasonal small plates (normally $6-$12 each), which recently included a peach-and-rosemary focaccia with onion butter, a truly wonderful heirloom tomato salad, roasted patty squash with caesar aioli, and roasted baby octopus with calabrian chilies. And since it’s happy hour, there are always drink specials too. It’s an insane value.
