Holly Street Daycare will raise money to help subsidize childcare for low-income families at a wine tasting event with entertainment provided by Chuck Mead and the Grassy Knoll Boys on October 11 at the LP Field’s West Stadium Club.
The fundraiser, Holly Street Rocks, is in its fifth year. The 6:30 p.m. event is open to the public and will include wines and premium beers provided by Midtown Wine and Spirits as well as dancing to the sounds of the self-proclaimed “uncompromising hillbilly band” from 9 to 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $60 ($50 in advance through Sept. 25), and are available at Midtown Wine and Spirits, by calling the center at 615-227-1421 or online at www.hollystreetrocks.org.

Now is your chance to enter what the NY Times calls "the competition to take note of" with $150,000 in prizes - including $25,000 cash for the grand prize winner alone and the best judges for any songwriting competition in the world. Frist Fridays has become one of Nashville’s most popular summertime activities, and it’s back for another year! August 29th will be a night of great music from Red Beet Records: Last Train Home (described as “one of the country’s most formidable roots-rock bands”), Peter Cooper (music writer for the Tennessean), and Fayssoux McLean (talented singer). An energetic and versatile performer, Denny’s live show revels in the music of beloved singer/songwriter Neil Diamond, and also incorporates a variety of music made famous by artists like Johnny Cash, Dean Martin, Roger Miller and others on September 26th. The Dynamites bring their funk and soulful sounds to close the Frist Fridays season on October 31st. The Dynamites featuring Charles Walker is described by the New York Times as “old-school music that works up a genuine sweat.” Make plans to join your friends and fellow Frist Center members in the Turner Courtyard for live entertainment, great art, cash bars, and complimentary hors d’oeuvres under the stars. The festivities start at 6:00 p.m. and conclude at 9:00 p.m. FREE for Frist Center members; General Admission is $8.50. It’s the best way to start the weekend, RAIN OR SHINE!!!!

ARTRAGEOUS COMES OF AGE: In its 21st year, Artrageous celebrates a time when flappers and gangsters were rulers of the social scene. Artrageous 21 “Glitz & Glam” is a 1920’s themed event taking place Saturday, November 8th, 2008. This annual event will raise money for Nashville CARES - Middle Tennessee’s comprehensive AIDS organization. Under the direction of Artrageous Board President, Jon Glassmeyer and Vice President Brian Pickler; Gary Gaston and Ryan Moss are the event’s co-chairs. Featuring eight local art galleries, Art & Invention, The Arts Company, Bennett Galleries , Estel Gallery, Gallery B, Richter Gallery, Rymer Gallery and Tennessee Art League (TAL), the tour is expected to be a big hit. Nashville ’s own DJ Ron will be providing music at the late party’s new location, Limelight, while radius 10 will be serving wonderful hors d’oeuvres.
