Nashville attorney Glenn Funk will announce his candidacy for District Attorney at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
The announcement makes it official, but Funk's intentions were already known. He appointed a treasurer last month and said he had begun fundraising. A release from the Funk campaign — which lists former Tennessee Democratic Party executive director Kevin Teets as campaign manager — cites Funk's 29 years of experience as an assistant district attorney, an assistant public defender, a special prosecutor and an attorney in private practice.
He is perhaps best known for defending Nashville rapper Young Buck against federal weapons charges several years ago. He will face ADA Robert McGuire who is running with the support of outgoing DA Torry Johnson and a long list of Metro political players.
Funk's press conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon on the steps of the Justice A A Birch Building.
