As you see, some states are promoting Obamacare. Their citizens are free to be healthy, as the psychedelic Oregon ad puts it. In Tennessee, we're doing absolutely nothing. We're free to be obese and sick.
Gov. Bill Haslam, who has refused to participate in the Affordable Care Act in any way and actually is trying to make it hard to sign up for coverage, is quoted in this New York Times article as saying the government shutdown is a "huge distraction." Distraction from what exactly? The flow of BS from his office? Today's ribbon cutting?
Update: Haslam expounded today on his NYT remarks. “I honestly think that, right now, this should be a good time for Republicans,” he said. “The health care plan is stumbling a little coming out of the gate, the president hasn’t had the best last two months of his tenure, and this should be a good time for us."
So the more people who remain uninsured, the better for Republicans? If this were a movie, an angel would appear right about now to take away our governor's health insurance, just for a little while, to make him realize that he's callous and needs to develop a conscience.
