In what sounds like the opening salvo of Craig Fitzhugh's campaign for governor, the House Democratic leader denounces Gov. Bill Haslam in this video for today's refusal to expand Tennessee's Medicaid program. Fitzhugh casts Haslam as weak and indecisive—a puppet of the Republican right wing. Sound familiar? The line of attack that works best is the one that really rings true.
"I truly believed that the governor was going to use this opportunity to show real leadership. Instead we’ve seen more of the hand-wringing and delayed action that we’ve become accustomed to," Fitzhugh says. "While I hope that the governor is serious about working with the federal government to create an alternative plan, past experience makes me question the sincerity of these efforts. All too often with this administration, we have the governor study, and study, and study an issue, only to come back later and say no."
