Politics In Dizzying Reversal, Bredesen Changes Mind on ObamaCare

Former Gov. Phil Bredesen, who once famously denounced ObamaCare as “the mother of all unfunded mandates,” now thinks it’s not such a bad thing after all. Bredesen chopped 170,000 people off Medicaid when he was governor. But now he thinks Gov. Bill Haslam ought to add 145,000 by expanding Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.

In this report by the AP’s Erik Schelzig, Bredesen gives his new position nonchalantly, acting as if he weren’t pulling one of the most audacious flip-flops in political history.

“I’ve just tried to tell conservative friends of mine that you’ve got to separate your feelings about the Affordable Care Act or the president from what’s best for the state,” Bredesen said.

Bredesen’s change of heart is genuinely puzzling. We guess he looked around and discovered he was siding with right-wing crazies on this issue and didn’t care for the surroundings.
