Pith's Prophesy Comes True: GOP Attacks Turner

It took the state Republican Party all of three hours after our post went live this morning to slam state Rep. Mike Turner for saying some Tennessee voters hate President Obama because he's black. Mustering all the faux outrage in his being, GOP chairman Chris Devaney demanded an apology from Turner "for his irresponsible joke and outrageous claim about Tennessee voters" and he called on the state party "to publicly condemn Mike Turner's comments." Devaney pointed out Turner made a similar comment a couple of years ago, and that one got Devaney all riled up too.

Aside from his own racially-insensitive joke about President Obama, for Mike Turner to once again accuse Tennessee voters for not embracing the President's failed economic policies because of racism is nothing short of outrageous.

Tennesseans overwhelmingly reject this President based solely on his failed policies that have led us to more spending, higher debt, and 23 million Americans still struggling to find work. Saying that Tennesseans' objection to the President is because of racism is a slap in the face to the integrity and morality of voters, and Mike Turner should be ashamed.

Update: Democratic Party spokesman Brandon Puttbrese responds—"Mike Turner has a long history of fighting for all Tennessee families. He has a solid record of renouncing intolerance and bigotry. If Chairman Devaney wants to hear apologies — he should start with his own sorry caucus which spends its time bullying select groups of Tennesseans and finding new ways to drive up unemployment and punish working families."
