Rand Paul Reportedly Being Detained by TSA at Nashville International Airport [Updated]

Posted by Steve Haruch on Mon, Jan 23, 2012 at 9:39 AM

According to several reports, including a tweet from his press secretary, Moira Bagley, Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul is being detained by TSA at Nashville International Airport.

Developing.

UPDATE: From The City Paper:

Paul, a Kentucky senator and son of presidential candidate Ron Paul, set off the body scanners at the airport, then refused a pat down search, according to an interview with the Associated Press.

However, a Transportation Security Administration source denied that he was detained, saying he was escorted out of the screening area by local law enforcement.

An official TSA statement read:

“When an irregularity is found during the TSA screening process, it must be resolved prior to allowing a passenger to proceed to the secure area of the airport. Passengers who refuse to complete the screening process cannot be granted access to the secure area in order to ensure the safety of others traveling.”

The senator was rebooked on another flight and rescreened without incident.

So nice how Rand Paul thinks everyone should be "treated with dignity" and not subject to invasive procedures and YET supports forcing women to have completely unnecessary and highly invasive ultrasounds prior to a legal medical procedure.

Shorter RP: "I support privacy and no government intrusion, except when it comes to young womenz."

so Mr. Paul objects to government making an "invasive" search of his body... on his way to a pro life rally?

oh the irony.

Perhaps he should be transferred to Gitmo for a more thorough follow-up ...

Apparently he was detained
on his way to a pro-life rally.

The irony is just killing me. How one person can hold such wildly divergent views on civil liberties in his head at the same time and still manage to walk straight is beyond me. Give him an Olympic medal for intellectual gymnastics.

And any bets on what set off the TSA scanner in the first place? My vote goes to the tinfoil hat permanently attached to his head.

I think a more accurate descriptor would be "Rand Paul inconvenienced by TSA at Nashville International Airport."

The TSA routinely lets thugs like Spotted algore and his henchmen right on through with nothing but a wink, but conservative, freedom lovers like Rand Paul get stopped for a pat-down, like he's an Arab or something?!?!! I smell a set-up and I'll bet you my 1989 Econoline van that President Osama is behind it!

I think the most accurate descriptor is "Rand Paul is a douche bag."

I thuink it is true that the Algor was waved on through once or twice. Generally he flies by private jet and subject to no indignities. It should be noted he does NOT carry OWS'ers, SCENESTERS, the likes, on the private jet rather preferring them to fly coach with the 99%.

Another thing... I believe or have heard no terrorist has ever been caught at the security screen gate. Mute your screams that it keeps them out, that's why!. Still consider the enormous costs, ruined plans, hatred of going near the airport. It's a long list of bad stuff.
