Occupy Nashville: How Does It Work?

Posted by Steve Haruch on Wed, Dec 7, 2011 at 10:44 AM

"While baffled by 'the movement,' I am interested in people, and their passions. So I went to see if I could find what motivates the Occupiers." So says YouTube user JSBTX (whose handle briefly reminded me of the old shorthand for the ’90s spazz-blues band Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, JSBX). He seems like a nice enough guy, and I like the way he headed down to Legislative Plaza to interview Occupy Nashville folks on camera with a very simple and seemingly honest question: Why are you here? (Hint: It has something to do with corporations.)

Okay, "work" and "Occupy Nashville" in the same sentence. Are you smoking crack?

Not at the moment, though I appreciate the concern!

Then again, I did resort to using an ICP reference in a headline.

Why are they there?

Because they want to use government to get their paws on other people's property. Just like all the rest of the leftists.

What Americans have a right to is an unfair tax advantage. What we have a right to do is flood the system with money and buy the "deciders" lock stock & barrel. What we have a right to do is write the laws that protect our unfair advantage. What we have a right to do is rig the game so we can't lose. What Americans have a right to is ANYTHING THEY LIKE - if they can afford it. That's why those people occupy. Beat a dog long enough he's gonna bite you.

Yes that 50% of the population who don't pay any federal income taxes certainly does have an unfair tax advantage.

And of course, a lot of the "occupier" crowds are charter members of that group.

I'm puzzled why people cannot appreciate all the Constitutional protections the Occupy Nashville folks have accomplished for the People of Tennessee to not get more respect for there hard work and effort.

Its difficult proving to a Governor that your not a King and treat people like they work at Pilot. You cannot change laws in the middle of the night by making the State Police your own private Security force. Occupy Nashville Did. They accomplished this for all Tennesseans.

Can you get in to Court and prove the Governor's office and his entire staff were motivated by Politics and ignored the Constitution to have a Night court Commissioner know more about the law than the Governor's office. Release those folks you got tied up on that bus out there. Then add and injunction to protect the rights of all Tennesseans to protest even when the Governor disagrees with what your saying.

The people are on the verge of loosing all control over there representatives. At a time when corporations in Tennessee pay less in taxes that the average citizen. Corporations pay around 3% on 500 million and the people pay 7% on food. All the money politicians give in tax breaks to the wealthiest Tennesseans are going right back into the pockets of the politicians who give them huge tax breaks, while we pay 7% just to eat.

There are many good Corporations in Tennessee but they are having Trouble competing with the Bad ones who pay no wages, no benefits, no health care and pension for there employees and these corporations put this money in there pocket minus the cutback they give Politicians. Bad corporations get to compete unfairly with corporations that take care of there employees. These same Republican Politicians complain when people who cannot work enough jobs, or find a job, have to go on welfare to feed there family, go to the emergency room to get health care and think they can retire on Social Security. Driving the cost up for the very People and Government they refuse to work or pay.

Republicans are burning the candle at both ends for profit and greed. Cut Jobs, cut Benefits and Wages. Cut Taxes on the wealthy and up the tax on the the working class. Take this money and give it to politicians at a time when the people cannot afford it and you get an Unbeatable majority. So far the only people standing in there way is Occupy Nashville and God Bless them. The little freedom fighters that could.

What would be awesome is for everyone to pay for government services on a user fee basis - the same way it works in the private sector. Those people who aren't paying any federal income taxes are using services financed by those taxes and they should start paying for them. It's as simple as that.

What is also AWESOME is that many of those who pay no federal income taxes get a big old fat "rebate" on taxes they didn't pay anyway. Plus food stamps, school lunches, rent subsidies....Whadda country! Who's providing the money? The one percent the OWS (Obviously Without Sense) is so angry with. What a bunch of ungrateful wretches.

Every adult over 21 yrs. of age, with exceptions to those totally disabled or
suffering from severe mentally illness, should pay some amount of Federal
Income tax if only $25.00 filled out with address and as simple as a post
card form. Yes, everyone pays sales tax, but participation on a Federal
Form should be a sign of adulthood and true member of civil and
responsible society!
Why isn't the Federal Court House the true site or a Bank of America lot
for these part-time camping comrades?

Why would we want to make people pay income tax on no income? Perhaps you should call it "citizenship dues." This idea has been tried, more or less, in the past. It was called a "poll tax."
