Rep. Rick Womick Strikes Back against Muslims, Liberal Media

Posted by Jeff Woods on Mon, Nov 21, 2011 at 9:50 AM

State Rep. Rick Womick says lawmakers are phoning him and texting him with messages of support for calling for the United States to purge Muslims from the military.

"As for my fellow legislators," Womick said on Steve Gill's radio show, "I’ve gotten multiple phone calls of support and text messages of support. Those who are not wanting to speak out publicly are not wanting to come out and condemn me either. They are quietly supporting me in the background."

Otherwise, Womick and Gill spent their time together bad-mouthing Muslims and the liberal media and denying that they're haters. Womick called the Murfreesboro Daily News Journal's Sam Stockard "nothing but a mouthpiece for the Muslim Brotherhood," and then Gill pounced on The Tennessean's Bob Smietana as another example of Muslim lovers in the media.

"One day, their wives, their children could be subjected to Shariah law and then it’s going to be too late," said Womick, who cast himself as the lonely voice in the wilderness.

I’ll tell you. I’ll be honest with you. This has been a brutal, brutal week. I mean, emotionally, it’s draining. It’s a constant attack against your character, against your opportunity to speak out, against my First Amendment. But I’m not going to back down. That’s the one thing in the emails people have asked me, please do not cave in or back down. And I won’t. I’m going to continue to shout it from the mountaintops whether I’m a state representative or whether I’m a peon in Murfreesboro.

Here's more of the Gill show's interview: Part 1 and Part 2.

I, on behalf of salt of the earth, God and country loving, Americans everywhere, salute Mr. Womick! I am him and he is me, figuratively speaking of course! I am one of those who called to congratulate him and to tell him to stand firm! The call was at 3 in the morning so I had to leave a voice mail! I was up so late because I couldn't sleep as I have been so anxious and fearful about our once and future great country! The Lame Stream Media is currently trying to destroy Mr. Womick, literally! The militant Islamists are quietly taking over Murfreesboro, slaughtering their goats to the gods in back yards all over that great American town! So Womick knows what he speaketh! He also knows that ACORN has been given management responsibilities of military recruiting centers all over the U.S. and they have been turning away anyone who isn't Muslim and cannot quote the Koran! You libtards will be sorry when the military, purged of all non-Muslims and non-gays, performs a coup de tat and hands dictatorial powers over to President Osama, who will then become Chairman Osama!

Fear and Loathing in Murfreesboro. What a sad, scary, hateful world it must be for Womick.

I'd almost like to see a standardized test on Constitutional reading comprehension, as a qualifier to being on a political ballot. Might save us a lot of time, money, and aggravation in the long run.

How can it be possible that Rutherford County, the home to a major university, an above-average school system, a solidily based population with above average income, and people who actually live-in and cope with the 21st Century produced such a ridiculous fool--then elected him to public office? Womick is an embarrassment to the State of Tennessee.

Once again, I will refer Rep. Womick to Article VI of the Constitution of the United States:
"but no religious test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

What part of this does he not understand? Why does he not respect and defend the Constitution, a requirement of his own oath of office? And, as others rightly point out, the First Amendment freedom of religion also plays a part here. No one can be denied service in our armed forces because of his religion. No one. It's unconstitutional. I know full well that advocating banning Muslims from the military being and immoral, unethical, disgraceful, bigoted and despicable position means nothing to this bozo, but you'd think that its being unconstitutional might.

And you can's just redefine "religion" to include only your own, as Judge Corlew was the most recent to rule from the bench.

If Womick really believes we are in imminent danger of being subject to Shariah law, he needs to spending his time fashioning tin-foil hats, digging out his bunker, setting up an anti-aircraft defense to repel the black helicopters, and getting underground reception for the Savage Nation radio broadcast--not pretending to be a responsible member of the General Assembly.

"Freedom of Speech"? Whatta dumbass? Perhaps there isn't really a need to restate it in this blog (except for maybe the benefit of TNGA Rep. Rick Womick and his silent majority supporters within the Tennessee General Assembly), but the 1st Amendment protects the"Freedom of Speech" rights of citizens against oppression by elected and appointed government officials --- you know, like Rep. Womick.

Perhaps I am wrong about this and other TNGA members have told Womick to STFU already and that is why the elected Womick is now painting himself as a "Freedom of Speech" victim...

Will somebody, ANYBODY, conduct a First Amendment Workshop in Middle Tennessee. Has anyone threatened Mr. Womick with jail for his comments? Just because one disagrees with him doesn't mean they are trying to deprive him (or Hank Williams Jr.) or anyone else of their right to speak. It's such a shameless rabble-rousing tactic to claim that. ARGHHHHHHHHHH!

I doubt if any of you critics have been in the military; I have. So, you're out on patrol with a muslim and you're not sure who he would shoot first, an enemy muslim or you. Do you walk in front of him, beside him, or behind him? Myself, I wouldn't lead. I might follow him but I wouldn't lead because a devout muslim cannot be expected to alter his religious philosophy merely because he's serving in the military. One other thing, devout muslims could care less about the Constitution unless it can be used to serve their purpose. And also remember there are thirteen dead soldiers down at Ft. Hood because of a muslim fanatic and a there's couple of dead army recruiters in Arkansas because of a muslim fanatic who was recruited right hear in Nashville. As far as constitutional rights, how about our soldiers right not to be shot in the back and how about their superior's, and the politician's, duty to protect them as well as can be expected?

Worth the paper it’s printed on, buddy. If you can’t produce any real people, I’d say your like-minded friends in the legislature are of the imaginary kind.

Maybe if no one wants to come forward (assuming such people DO exist), that should tell you something about your cracked up, bigoted worldview. What are you all ashamed of? Why is hating Muslims some dirty, backroom secret? If it’s something all the kewl kids are doing, why isn’t everyone out there boasting about it? Are liberals really such big fat meanies? Really? We have all the power in this state? Since when?

There is an aroma of bullshit wafting over Womick’s claims. Shocked? Nope. We hear this same stuff about imaginary supporters and friends ALL THE TIME.

Consider it the rhetorical equivalent of the white sheet.

Exactly, packrat. But anti-American and unconstitutional sentiments from Womick, gast and sandra really don't matter, except to show what kind of bigoted and ignorant people are dominating the right-wing, teabagger set.

Why don't they matter? Because banning someone from the military because of his religion is unconstitutional. No room for interpretation; no room for fudging; no room for rationalization. Article VI and Amendment 1 are as clear as day. These clowns have no respect for the Constitution whatsoever.

Sandra is worried about "they" (as if all Muslims were just the same any more than all Chrsitians are). I am more afraid of right-wing neo-fascists in our own midst, the kind who blew up the federal courthouse in Oklahoma City, then I am Muslims trying to build a mosque in Murfreesboro or a Muslim American who wants to serve his country in the Army.

I thought Christianity wanted in the long run, for all to be Christian, thus subjecting oneself to Christian Law. I thought Judaism wanted in the long run, for all to be Jewish, thus subjecting oneself to Jewish Law. I thought all monotheistic religions intended for all individuals to eventually become subject to their doctrines?...........Considering that, it would seem that if vindication can be found for hatred towards Muslims because their religion calls for subjection to its doctrines, then all religions who call for so, should be treated with the very same justifications......This is not logical. To single out Muslims for reasons that all religions call for, would be deemed quite superfluous from the perspective of an intellectual, and rather hypocritical, if the people who support this idea claim to be a part of any monotheistic religion who calls for all people to eventually yield to the doctrines of their religion.

They served in Europe where they would have no conflict of interest. I once had a dentist of Japanese ancestry who thought it funny to whisper, "Banzai" right before using the needle. GR8ST8, Judaism explicitly states that its Law is for Jews only. It assumes that non-Jews will have other laws, and other religions. Christianity and Islam are "universal religions," (i.e. religions that have the goal of ultimately converting all others), but Judaism is not. Just FYI.

TN Farmer, Womick isn't presenting facts either, just prejudices. Muslims are not a monolithic group anymore than Christians are. And like Christians, they don't all interpret their holy writings the same. Islamic clerics have called for "Holy War" many times, usually taken with a yawn by the vast majority of Muslims who don't care for the extremist rhetoric of their so-called leaders as non-Muslims. I've met Muslims in Nashville, played soccer with Arabs and Kurds, and talked to Muslim business owners, of which there are quite a few in Nashville. Not one of them would I have regarded as extremists and most think self-proclaimed Clerics and Ayatollahs are blowhards, kind of like what many Christians think of the James Dobson's and Pat Robertson's of the world. You know one of the reasons why Salmon Rushdie was never assassinated, even though the Supreme Leader of Iran put a death warrant on his head? Because most Muslim's could have care less what the Supreme Leader of Iran wanted. It's that simple.

Anyways, it's all a moot point because Constitutionally speaking, you can't bar people from the military based on religion. Argue it all you want.

If the Supreme Court can rule it unconstitutional to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theatre or prevent state governments from placing crosses along highways where people have died, I would think that just about anything and everything is open for debate. If someone could prove that muslims in the military were an unreasonable danger to other non-muslim soldiers, well then, there you go, no telling what the ruling would be. Is a soldier with a loaded M-16, yelling " Allah akbar!" less a threat than somebody yelling "Fire?"

Gast,

There were far better reasons not to allow Nisei troops to fight in the Pacific. The Japanese, no pleasant people to fall into the hands of in the best of cases, could be counted on to treat captured Nisei with even greater cruelty than they showed to other troops.

At the same time, the presence of Japanese American troops in the Pacific would have enabled the Japanese to put on American uniforms to try and infiltrate our positions. That would increase the chances of friendly fire incidents.

That we did not make similar choices for Americans of European descent was simply a matter of numbers. We could not possibly field an army of non-European Americans because they had ancestors from Axis nations. In fact, the Germans used English-speaking soldiers, some who were born in the US, to infiltrate Allied positions during the Battle of the Bulge.

Not using Nisei troops had far less to do with racism and more to do with good military planning. After all, since Japan was allied to Germany and Italy, any Nisei who wanted to defect would certainly have been welcomed by the other side.

Psychic Octopus,

"He knows very well that no U.S. appellate court would ever rule that Islam is not a religion or that Muslims are not entitled to free exercise under the First Amendment."

If the Appeals Court of the Supreme Court were more inclined to a Strict Constructionist approach, you would be correct. However under the 'living Constitution' doctrine, the Courts could fairly easily find Islam is not a 'religion.' For example, Islam is based on the teachings of one person so an ambitious court might decide that it is a cult like Scientology.

Now I do not personally hold that view but the Framers didn't understand cults or the psychology that leads people to surrender themselves to a cult leader. Under the living Constitution, it would be no problem to rule that Islam, being the word of one person, is more cult than religion.

Gast,

Yelling 'Fire' in a crowded theatre is not 'speech.' We have libel and slander laws because those actions are also not speech. Yelling 'This movie sucks' in a crowded theatre is 'speech' {and, in some cases like Barbra Streisand movies, Truth is an absolute defense against libel and slander charges}.
