Silence of the Lambs: Why Won't GOP Leaders Rebuke Womick?

Posted by Jeff Woods on Wed, Nov 16, 2011 at 11:41 AM

news.jpg
The Murfreesboro Daily News Journal denounced the entire Tennessee Republican Party and its leaders today for failing to rebuke GOP Rep. Rick Womick for saying Muslims ought to be purged from the U.S. military. Where's the outrage? We've been wondering that ourselves. Womick made his remarks, on Veterans Day no less, at a conference for Muslim haters. If Womick went to a Klan rally, would this state's Republican leaders break their silence then? The DNJ called on Womick to apologize or quit his office.

"Short of Womick's resignation," the newspaper wrote in an editorial, "we call on the state and local Republican Party to rebuke him for his extremist remarks. If nobody speaks up, we consider them complicit by their silence."

For an elected official to say these things is reckless and indefensible, and for elected leaders to sit quietly is embarrassing to Rutherford County and all of Middle Tennessee. This is discrimination at its worst, no different than what America did to black Americans in treating them as second-class citizens. Will Womick try next to take away Muslim voting rights?

They won't rebuke him because they agree with him. But they can't really say that, either.

Talk about a shopping list for pissed off Islamic fundamentalists! I would not want to be listed on the public record as contributing cash to any political election campaign for TNGA Rep. Rick Womick (or for Lt. Governor Ron "Islam is a Cult" Ramsey and his RAAM political action committee)...

"Free speech" is only allowed for people who agree with you.

@Elmer:
Where or how might certain motivated individuals aquire such useful information (for politicians in general)?

False comparison by Benny Hill. Nobody is questioning ya boy's right to free speech. They are questioning whether leaders in his party want to associate themselves with or distance themselves from what he said, and whether they think these are appropriate remarks for a public official to make.

He is betting that the most energy--the kind that gets folks out to vote or to make contributions to campaigns--is generated by white anger, resentment, hate, and/or fear. By making comments that target a small minority with no clout in a state like Tennessee, he hopes to gain the enthusiastic support of Tennessee whites of the ilk who were seduced by Nixon's Southern Strategy (play to white biases and prejudices, but in a subtle, coded way, and hide the ugliness of the maneuver behind the fig leaf of "conservatism").

Then tell me f-head (aka bubba) your interpretation of "...rebuke him for his extremist remarks." Sounds like something you would say except your remarks would be more like, "Make him shut the f**k up."

Benny, do you have access to a dictionary that contains the word "rebuke?"

EF, I rebuke you for calling bubbadog a f-head.

See how that works? Even though I rebuked you, my rebuke doesn't stop you from calling him an f-head again. It just demonstrates that I think you're an vulgar a-hole for doing it.

Sometimes I wonder what the left would be without someone to shush. Bankrupt in every way, I guess.

Speaking of political correctness, my grandchildren had their "Cultural Feast" at public school this week. Used to be called Thanksgiving meal.

Donna, you need to report that to Bill O'Reilly! It's bad enough our public schools have been waging a War on Christmas! Now apparently they are waging a War on Thanksgiving! I'm so mad now that I feel like going down to the OWS protest and punching someone in the face!

"Political correctness" is the straw man people set up to justify being complete tools to each other.

@Min: Please tell us your views on the PCness of changing Thanksgiving to "Cultural Feast" and Christmas to "Winter Break." I'm all eyes.

"Cultural Feast" might be too generous given the end result of so-called civilized Europeans interaction with Native American culture. The Americans keep the Euro-trash from starving to death and what thanks do they get?
And Christmas is nothing more than an excuse to go further into debt in this country, so call it whatever the time off from school whatever you like.

I like Min, and don't believe it folks - gast could never all eyes because he's all buttholes. And who cares what they call Thanksgiving? It's all just a fable anyway. Is changing what it's called gonna change your traditions? What's so sacred about Thanksgiving?

If Gannett and the Scene want to disapprove of Rep Womack's statements
then fine! If they think they are the only one's that Free Speech and Court
Protections apply to then that another story! Conforming to the wishes and
strict moral code of what the Press feeds us 24/7 is not a life plan many
wish to follow! Out of the Billion that are supposedly followers, a huge
number believe "the written word" to be taken literally and are taught
that daily!

Major Nidal Malik Hasan used this power point presentation to explain to the army what the difficulties are for Muslims in the US military who sent to fight in Muslim lands. They didn't listen.

It's a tough situation. As for me, those that would kill me or my family are not deserving of life. Those that support those that would kill me or my family walk a very fine line...no, they too, have forfeited the right to life. What Muslims remain? Of course there are a few who would actively denounce the horrors their scriptures require of their followers. Why must so many be so mamby-pamby about the truth that there is a severe issue arising directly into our lives. I've seen the tapes of our fellow Americans having their heads removed. Most of you would be under this same knife if they get their way. I pray for you and for my children. May evil be recognized and confronted. To survive in the light, Muslims need renounce the very scriptures that tell them to kill you and me. They cannot be your friend and be a good Muslim as well. You will be dead should you not require Muslim conversion to anything of light. It is simply a matter of time. While we feel good about standing up for their rights, they patiently plot our demise. They don't care if you love them. They hate you.
