Herman Cain Relatively Popular With Tennessee Dudes, Less So With Chicks and Sissies

Posted by Steve Haruch on Mon, Nov 14, 2011 at 1:49 PM

The City Paper reports that, according to a new study conducted by the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions at Vanderbilt, Herman Cain is at the front of the Republican pack here in Tennessee, at least among dudes, even though nobody really likes any of the candidates:

Cain was the choice of 22 percent of 823 likely primary voters polled Oct. 28 through Nov. 5. Sexual harassment claims against Cain arose during the survey.

Results showed Cain’s support did not change much as the story unfolded. Cain beat his closest competitor, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, by eight percentage points, but the actual winner of the primary was “undeci,” according to a release from the university.

The other takeaway from the poll is that Tennessee men like Cain a lot more than Tennessee women do:

“Two things are clear from this poll,” said John Geer, distinguished professor of political science and co-director of the poll. “First, none of the candidates are wildly popular in the state. Second, Cain draws disproportionate support from males.”

Male voters supported Cain over Romney 27.1 percent to 12 percent, while women preferred Cain just 15.4 percent to Romney’s 13 percent, which is within the poll’s plus or minus 2.6 percent error rate.

I guess it's not surprising that Cain is less popular among women and more popular among dudes, both for the whole groping-allegations business and because he is an authority on manliness, especially as it relates to pizza: "The more toppings a man has on his pizza, I believe the more manly he is," he told GQ in a characteristically profound rhetorical flourish. Furthermore, Cain added, "A manly man don't want it piled high with vegetables! He would call that a sissy pizza." And that's where the Vanderbilt poll really shows its demographic blind spot — I mean, who are sissies pulling for?

I guess we shouldn't care what they think anyway, since, ew, they eat vegetables. The search for Not Romney continues.

I think AWP is a Herman Cain sissy. He and gast do each others hair and paint each others toe nails. BTW, your "black" is a stooge. All the rest are ours and they're for really reals.

The funny thing, AWP, is that you and people like you actually believe that African-Americans only voted for Obama because he is black. Well, you should have nothing to worry about now. Cain will split the black vote, right?

You're in for a rude awakening. Cain will suppress the white racist vote - a core GOP constituency in the South - and will likely make South Carolina, Georgia, and maybe even Mississippi competitive for the Democrats once all the good 'ol boys stay at home on Election Day. Meanwhile, African-Americans will vote for Obama again because he shares their politics, not because of race.

This is going to be fun. GO HERMAN CAIN!!!

Everybody knows that AWP is super-straightfaced satire, right?

No, Geddit, everyone does not know, and that's the beauty of it.

Why would anyone support a LOBBYIST?

Well, I.T., the last poll I saw showled African Americans supporting Obama with about 93% in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup with Cain.

I actually believe African Americans as a group are not stupid (as conservatives apparently believe) and support candidates who would best represent their interests and aspirations. Since right-wingers historically willingly embrace racists, and conservatives true-to-form have always opposed civil rights laws (it used to be Dixie Democrats up until the Democratic Party made them unwelcome in the 1960s, and now it's the Republican Party), I have no trouble understanding why the African American demographic is overwhelmingly for Obama.

Cain, a self-centered sexual harasser and opportunist, is beloved by a certain segment of the radical right-wing. His "if you're poor, it's your own fault" and "I never had troubles because I'm black" statements are especially valuable to them. They provide a rationalization of their racist stereotypes through the lips of a black man.

But feel free to support Cain if you really want to be paying 18.75 percent sales tax on every retail purchase you make. Because that's exactly what his 9-9-9 "plan" would do to you.

Have you done the calculation for the purchase of an item using the existing tax code? Do it... and then calculate using Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan and see how much less expensive the same item would be. There are those out there who still are too lazy to do the math... or are mean spirited liberals who are just plain dumb!

If you have calculated consumer cost of an item using the "existing tax code" and then calculated the consumer cost of the "same" item using "9-9-9", you have found, by comparison, that the same item purchased under the 9-9-9 plan would cost LESS!
Don't be lazy... do the math!
