Dems Raise Chump Change with Monkeys at Zoo

Posted By on Thu, Oct 20, 2011 at 1:41 PM

Here's an illustration of the competitiveness (or lack thereof) of our state's politics. Republicans smashed records by raising $550,000 at a lavish extravaganza at the governor's mansion. For $50,000, you could dine elegantly upstairs with the governor and first lady. Democrats, meanwhile, managed to pry loose a paltry $27,000 at a tawdry little shakedown at the Nashville Zoo. For $5, you could pet the goat.

House Democratic Caucus chairman Mike Turner could only marvel at the GOP's fundraising prowess. "If they really raised that much, that's something," he said. "I don't know where all that money came from."
