"Celebrating Nashville's Own": The Debut Concert of Jazz Music City

Saxophonist/flutist Rahsaan Barber is well-known in Nashville's jazz community — not only as an outstanding soloist and contributor to multiple groups, but also as an educator at Belmont and a key part of the Nashville Jazz Workshop's ongoing series that spotlights contemporary performers. And Barber has now extended his activities into another arena: His new album Everyday Magic marks the debut of his record label, appropriately known as Jazz Music City, which he formed as another outlet to showcase top area musicians.
Everyday Magic is also the name of his latest group, who are featured on the album. Guitarist Adam Agati, pianist Jody Nardone, bassist Jerry Navarro and drummer Nioshi Jackson comprise an able ensemble, and the record also features guest appearances from his brother, trombonist Roland Barber, and Giovanni Rodriguez, a percussionist comrade from Barber's other band, El Movimento. They join many other headliners at a special concert Tuesday marking the launch of Barber's company and honoring the city's wealth of jazz talent. "Celebrating Nashville's Own" will also include Bruce Dudley, the Jody Nardone trio, John Birdsong Trio, Stephanie Adlington, The Megaphones, Everyday Magic and more.
