When: 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Where: East Park, 700 Woodland St.

Even Satan in his (her?) greatest brainstorm couldn’t conceive of a hell as fiery as the annual Music City Hot Chicken Festival — an incendiary tribute to our city’s spiciest delicacy, on what is historically one of the hottest days of the year. Sweat and indigestion aside, it’s a hell we’d gladly be damned to, for all of eter … well, at least for one day a year, anyway. Some folks have clamored for the festival to be moved to a cooler time of year, but frankly, we think it’s perfect right where it is. After all, spicy food causes perspiration, the body’s natural cooling system. It’s one of the reasons countries with warmer climates have spicier diets.

But we digress — all you need to know is that Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack, 400 Degrees, Pepperfire, Bolton’s and The Chicken Shack will all be there, and so should you. And get there early, because the first 500 attendees will receive free hot chicken samples. Well, they won’t cost you any cash, but there is a price to pay — for more on that, read the Scene's article on “Exit Strategies.”
