New, Enlightened Tracy Morgan Is Back in Business

Posted By on Mon, Jun 27, 2011 at 8:30 AM

The New York Times' Dave Itzkoff caught Tracy Morgan's stand-up set at Caroline's in Times Square Saturday night — the besieged comedian's first performance since his notorious June 3 Ryman show, which featured a particularly vicious homophobic rant. We won't relive all the details since it's been reported and blogged about everywhere (including here and here and here and here on Pith), but suffice to say Morgan wound up in a lot of hot water with his NBC employers and many gay rights organizations — so much so that he came back to Nashville to offer an apology.

From Itzkoff's recounting of the show, it's clear Morgan is a changed man:

Resuming his routine, Mr. Morgan warned his audience, “Don’t ever mess with women who have retarded kids.” As groans and cries of “Uh-oh” were heard, he continued, “Them young retarded males is strong. They’re strong like chimps.”

Finally, he concluded with a bit about his alleged teenage romance with a girl he described as “a cripple” with a prosthetic arm, a mechanical larynx and a portable dialysis machine.

See you at the next apology?
