Prolific novelist, raconteur, songwriter and politician, Kinky Friedman would merit a place in history if only for the genre-busting verve of his work with The Texas Jewboys, who were the Lone Star State's version of The Fugs. You'd have to be made of stone to not laugh at such compositions as "Get Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in Bed" and "Ride 'em Jewboy." Along with fellow Texan Doug Sahm, Friedman rated as an original outlaw, before the term became capitalized — in both senses of the word.

Besides his work on such great recordings as Sold American, Friedman has written detective fiction and made an unsuccessful but entertaining run for the Texas governorship. He'll be appearing solo and doing material from all phases of his long, strange career, and says he plans to make an Australian tour with Van Dyke Parks later this year. For more unrestrained Kinkiness, see the interview at Nashville Cream.
