It's Opening Day, Nashville: The Sounds take on the New Orleans Zephyrs at Greer Stadium tonight at 7:05 p.m. In honor of this evening's "Throw Back" promotion — which mainly involves the team wearing retro jerseys and vendors discounting many concessions to $2 — here's a news clip from 1979, the year the Sounds won the Southern League championship and became a Yankees farm team. (Incidentally, this might also be the last time Rudy Kalis bought a new sweater.)
Of course, the Sounds are no longer in the Southern League (they're in the Pacific Coast League now, naturally) and are no longer a Yankees affiliate (the Milwaukee Brewers have a better farm system at the moment, so we win on that count). But Greer Stadium still has those blue seats. And if you're a baseball fan (i.e., someone I respect), your butt's going to be in one of them tonight.
