Arts and Entertainment Pick of the Day: Stretch at TSU

Wilma Rudolph was born the 20th of 22 children to an impoverished African-American family in 1940. She was diagnosed with polio — a prognosis that left her parents with little hope that she would walk. In the 1960 Olympics, she won three gold medals for running. The latest show at TSU takes inspiration from Rudolph's ability to "stretch" traditional concepts about gender, race and physical limitations.
The show assembles the work of three fiber artists who literally stretch and manipulate their materials while making art that pushes cultural boundaries. Aimee Miller tears canvas to create sculptural paintings. Jeanne Williamson quilts various media into engaging installations. Lesley Patterson-Marx sews multimedia compositions. Check this one out for an excellent mental workout.
