Take a look at Memphis and Shelby County and you'll see why white State legislators like Mark Norris are interferring with the consolidation vote there. Norris is afeared his district's white children might actually have to attend schools with children who aren't, you know, white.

Why are the red areas red and the gray areas gray? Certainly relative income levels has something to do with it, but is that in and of itself racial? Choice is certainly involved. But, can that word, "choice," be racial when it comes to where one lives? I think an argument could be made that it both is and is not. Many people tend to congregate with those that they feel comfortable around and the reasons may or may not involve racism. How about housing discrimination? Ah, now we have something that can and has been proven - as in "red lining" - a despicable practice still carried on despite laws to the contrary. Social engineering laws designed to force peoples to congregate can never succeed, but laws to ensure choice can.

This is simply unacceptable! Integration is integration, and anything short of it should be corrected forthwith. This applies not only to African-Americans, but to Muslim-Americans, Oriental-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, East/West-Indian Americans, and of course Aboriginal-Americans as well. The problem is sufficiently severe that this writer considers it to be worthy of national cabinet level governmental attention. No more ethnic enclaves!

Consider for a moment the employment opportunities here. Just look for instance at the bureaucratic pickings in places like North Nashville. For proper demographics in that place a mass displacement must occur. No more than one house, (or project apartment) in eight should be occupied by an African-American. The rest must be occupied by persons of another ethnicity, in proper proportions of course. And look at the advantages: for instance, the schools would take care of themselves. No more bussing. Employment would surge. Our economy would recover dramatically.

Legal means would be applied. The Department of Ethnicity would decree who may purchase/rent where. And this applies not only to North Nashville, but to Red Boiling Springs, Bug Tussle and Shelbyville. Supervised everywhere, of course, both in town and in the countryside as well.

Let this be promptly brought to correctness!

Gee, I thought this was still a free country and people could live where they wanted. What's wrong with that?

Just another thought. Dodge City Projects in No Nash might be a really good place to start for the Dept of Ethnicity. They need some Hispanics and White Trash up there to round out the civility.

Ok, let's put some project housing in Belle Mead and Green Hills and even it out a bit for those of you who are complaining....

I am sorry but many of the gray areas have project housing and other low income houses with people, which are probably are majority black that choose to live a life where the state, fed gov't or whatever agency funds those people via use of the working class tax dollars to live off of.

Lets also factor in that many of these people reproduce to increase the amount of money they get every month and pass this mentality on to their kids.

I work for a living, I am sorry but I don't want to live around people who are capable of working but instead they would rather go out gang banging, drugging or whatever and choose not to pursue work. Leave the public assistance to those who are disabled, elderly, etc that truly need it!!

I do live in a nice neighborhood where we have some very nice and respectable black people whome I think very highly of and we converse, bbq, etc....

This article is almost as bad as the one in the Tennessean a while back about black kids getting suspended!

Life is what each individual makes of it!!!

'Life is what each individual makes of it'-while that is true to an extent, you MUST factor in the life someone is born into. You can't possibly be saying that a kid born in the projects has all the chances of one born into an upper middle class home in Belle Meade? No matter if that kid is black, white, or hispanic, poverty is going to lesson his/her choices dramatically.

While the map is interesting, we should be talking about the public schools and how to increase employment rates in the East/North Side.

There are no upper middle class families in Belle Meade.

"There are no upper middle class families in Belle Meade."

No scruffy ones either. Might be another prime project for our new Dept of Ethnicity - for the same reason as for Dodge City Projects. And I'll just bet the new Dept of Ethnicity indeed could probably find a prime spot for projects in Belle Meade too. Hah!
