Tennessee Republicans Can't Wait a Day to Make a Mockery of Their Stated Principles

Posted by on Wed, Jan 12, 2011 at 5:23 AM

On Tuesday, Jeff Woods reported on Speaker Harwell's vision for Tennessee:

She said lawmakers should ask themselves three questions before voting on any bill: “Does it increase the size of government or not? Second, does it make it easier to start a business and operate in Tennessee or not? And finally, does it keep us moving forward in reforming our educational system to best meet the needs of the next generation or not?”

These words were still echoing in Pith's ears when we heard rumors that Glen "Let Them Eat Cake" Casada and Jim "No Nickname Yet" Gotto are meeting with members of Nashville's business community Wednesday morning about ways the state legislature can enlarge its role in the decision-making process of the city.

I can't wait to see what this legislation looks like. I'm sure mullti-national corporations and the entertainment industry are going to be thrilled with Tennessee's "We Hate Gay People" laws. Nothing says "We're a great place to do business" like laws that remind companies not all of their employees will be safe here.

We should be rolling out the red carpet. But rumor has it Republicans are already plotting how to pull the rug out from under people.
