In December 2010, Belmont University's women's soccer coach was terminated due to her sexual orientation. In a press release officials said that Lisa Howe decided to resign on her own, without offering further explanation.
In other Belmont-undoes-three-years-of-goodwill news of the day, a Belmont student leaked the following cable from university president Bob Fisher to the student body, faculty and staff:
Many students, faculty and staff have expressed concerns over the past few days regarding the various stories reported in the media. I am unable to address specific issues regarding personnel matters, but I can tell you that your opinion is important and matters to the conversation.
