I wrote a bit about volunteer opportunities at Room in the Inn's incredible Campus for Human Development, while also previewing some particular areas of need for local charities around the holiday season. The good people at the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee told me they'd be debuting their new Giving Cards the week of Thanksgiving, and they just announced they're now available at the CFMT website.
The concept is simple, but brilliant: Buy one, just like any gift card, and the person you give it to can donate the balance to the 501(c)(3) public charity (or charities) of their choice, anywhere in the country. They have a variety of designs to pick from, but the cards can also be customized or branded in bulk. Not only is the Giving Card tax deductible for you, the conscientious buyer, it doubles as a good deed and a good present. Full CFMT press release below:
The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee Launches Giving Card Program Making Gift Cards Available to Benefit Charities
Giving Cards Available in 15 Themes for Individuals, Companies and More
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — This holiday season, The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee announces the launch of a new charitable giving card program, the Giving Card. Like any retail gift card, Giving Cards can be purchased and given as gifts, and recipients redeem the card online to benefit a qualified 501(c)(3) public charity or charities nationwide. Available both individually and in bulk, Giving Cards can be purchased and redeemed at The Community Foundation's website at www.cfmt.org.
Making any special occasion more meaningful, Giving Cards can be purchased in increments starting at $25, in any of 15 designs and themes from holidays to birthdays to a simple “thank you.” Giving Cards can be customized and, for example, branded with a logo, to distribute to employees, vendors and clients.
"Whether you want to teach your grandchildren the fun of giving, give a client a gift with meaning or solve the problem of pleasing the friend who has everything, the Giving Card is a new avenue to honor people with a special gift that gives back," said Ellen Lehman, president of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
Buying a Giving Card is fully tax deductible for the buyer and allows the Giving Card recipient the opportunity to choose from thousands of United States charities.
Lehman continued, "This year of all years, when we in Middle Tennessee have seen firsthand that giving matters … and that possessions can be lost in an instant … The Community Foundation heard from many, many people looking for options to traditional gifts. But these gift givers are often concerned that a charity they select might not ‘fit’ for the person they are honoring. The Giving Card is a timely solution, and we’re honored to be able to make it available.”
