State Rep. Weaver Defends 'Aunt Jemima' Picture

On her Facebook page, freshman state Rep. Terri Lynn Weaver posted a Halloween picture of herself with her pastor posing in black face as Aunt Jemima. For a caption, Weaver wrote “Aunt Jemima, you is so sweet.” And she doesn't understand why anyone is offended. Says state Sen. Thelma Harper:

“She's supposed to be a leader, and this is what we have in the Legislature. I think this is one of the worst. I think this is as low as you can stoop."

Just how clueless is Weaver? Here's her reaction: “I'm the least racist of anyone. Some of my greatest friends are black."

Wonder how many black people attend her church? That the minister thought this was an appropriate costume speaks volumes about a mindset!

It's Halloween, you morons. Not everything is a political or racist statement. Whatever happened to things just being funny and cooky on Halloween? Years ago, a friend of mine (a young white male) painted his skin and dressed as SteveUrkel from Family Matters. Why? Not because of some message. It was 1992 or so. He did it because he liked the show and could impersonate the voice flawlessly. Everyone thought it was funny then. Today, the NAACP would be all over it. This political correctness is garbage. It's OK for gays to parade around, inappropriately clad, on Halloween, but to impersonate an African American is wrong. What has happened to this state and nation?

How come no one protests the New Black Panther Party and their voter intimidation in PA in 2008 and today? Because political correctness has taken over, and it's a damn shame.

When people complain about "political correctness," they're really just whining that they can't say or do racist things in public anymore.

You have the liberal line memorized exactly, David. Congratulations.

This thread is a good illustration of why there is no such thing as a right-wing mindset.

Oh, come ON! A PASTOR? Fun and games? Way to reach out for the diversity, "Reverend!" This SHOULD be exposed and I am glad it was. It is NOT 1961 anymore, as much as Tea People wish it were. Is THIS what they want to "take our country back" to? This man was jet black, like shoe polish. How can that NOT be offensive to someone who lived through the racial strife in this very state until the 1970s. What is funny about it, anyway? How many blacks were at the party? How many (if any) attend this man's church? I want to know what church he is affiliated with. And, yes, this Representative WAS guilty, once she posted it on facebook. People only complain about "political correctness" when criticism is aimed at someone white and "Christian." Stay classy, GOPsters!

"How come no one protests the New Black Panther Party and their voter intimidation in PA in 2008 and today?"

Are you serious? It's been covered NON-STOP by FOX and every mouthbreathing idiot with a microphone and a 2-bit talk radio show for two years now. Maybe those trying to get political mileage out of the incident should actually pay attention to the words of the Bush-appointed, conservative majority of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.

Here's Abigail Thernstrom writing for the god damned National Review Online:

http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/243…

"The incident involved only two Panthers at a single majority-black precinct in Philadelphia. So far — after months of hearings, testimony and investigation — no one has produced actual evidence that any voters were too scared to cast their ballots. Too much overheated rhetoric filled with insinuations and unsubstantiated charges has been devoted to this case."

Let it go, guys. It's crybaby political grandstanding at this point.
