Nate Rau reports that Sheriff Hall had his first meeting with his new 287(g) advisory council. You may remember, he trashed the old advisory council because for some reason, they lost confidence in the program not having deep and insurmountable issues. One wonders what might have caused them to lose faith in the program...
Was it when Sheriff "Death to Smoochy" Hall accidentally spoke to a racist hate group about how great the program is?
Was it when one of Hall's ICE officers was also working with illegal immigrants at his second job?
Was it when the City Council wouldn't even hear from the community about the program when it was reassessing it?
Or was it when word came that 287(g) undermines public safety?
According to Rau, Hall thought "the council was no longer serving its purpose, and members of the council were misrepresenting his views."
It's hard to believe that the advisory council could do any more damage to the reputation of the program than the incidents listed above, but what do I know?
