Or the "Middle Tennesseans Tired of Being Represented By Shitty Rednecks in the National Media Defense Fund." Those are the working names for an idea I had this morning. I've been watching the Daily Show clip featuring local opportunistic bigot anti-mosque activist Laurie Cardoza-Moore pretty steadily for three or four days now, trying to find some kind of weakness. Obviously her disgusting ignorance isn't doing the trick. Let's be honest, where hate inflammation is concerned, that's really more of a strength.
Then it occurred to me. The Cardoza-Moores of the world, and the wackos and media whores who succeed them, are like lichens or tumors. Or perhaps the proper analogy is some kind of tick. She survives as long as she can hate-suck the teat of Islamic resentment in Middle Tennessee. She won't go away unless the Muslims who have every right to live and worship here go away.
So let's do them both a favor and support her parasitic career by supporting its host: the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro.

Your letter wreaks with 'hate' that you appear to deplore. By the way; what is your world view in that 'hate' is absolutely wrong? Do you have a religion that has moral absolutes making hate wrong? If we don't hate bad things, then we embrace all evil and good at the same time. Since the Muslim religion is contradictory to other religions; not all can be true and coherent at the same time and instance. This is a violation of the law of non-contradiction; A cannot be non-A. This egalitarianism that you seek in religious honor is different from the 14th amendment's equal treatment in regards to law. The tenets of Islam are incoherent when it comes to those of Christianity. Only a religion with a deity that is both absolute and personal can justify the tenets of reality. Islam does not have this sort of deity. Allah is described as 'beyond' knowing in the personal sense and is so abstract and absolute as it cannot be known; yet the Koran claims to 'know' this god! To have a coherent religion, such as the Christian one, we need a God that is the source of personal concern with the created order and absolute in nature at the same time. One that can be the source of immaterial entities such as absolute laws of logic, power to sustain the laws of nature for mankind's benefit, and a source of moral absolutes. Without all three of these, a religion is incoherent in its unity. In Islam there is the claim that Allah is all holy and cannot tolerate sin in his presence, yet there is no atonement for past sins. No one never knows if enough good works have been done. How can their holy god tolerate creatures in his presence that have no substitute atonement for their sins the way Christianity does? Only Christianity offers propitiation and atonement for sinful mankind through Christ's substituionary atonement. It is also the only religion with an absolute and personal God that offers coherence in its ideology.

I believe all religion is evil and superstitious, but fully support people's right to worship as long as they are not oppressing others while doing so. That said, thanks to Howard's comment, my check for the New Project Fund is in the mail.

I hope that one day the evangelicals in this country recognize how the "wall of separation" protects them, too. Keep it up guys, and one day some well-meaning bureaucrat might be forcing your First Baptist Church to perform same sex wedding ceremonies.
Dear Howard: It must be comforting to have a lock on THE way, THE truth, and THE life, to the total exclusion of any other point of view. But your essay on the superiority of Christianity has nothing whatsoever to do with Mr. Maldonado's proposal.
Nowhere does Mr. Maldonado suggest that Islam is superior to, or even the equal of, Christianity. In fact, he does not discuss religion at all. What he suggests is that those who are embarrassed by Ms. Cardoza-Moore's intemperate rants can turn the tables on her by making a donation to the Murfreesboro mosque construction project in her name.
This would be the equivalent of donating to Jerry Falwell's church in the name of Larry Flynt, or to Planned Parenthood in the name of Catholic Charities. It's a political and/or aesthetic statement...not a religious one.
In fact, the more I think of it, the better it sounds to make a donation to Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays in the name of Fred Phelps.
The country I was born in not only allows freedom of religion but freedom FROM religion.
I want that country back.
These Xtian robo-bots do injury to the word and the deeds of Christ who, like Mohammed and Buddha, was a noteworthy moral teacher and example for all of us. I do believe that Christ said that God dwells in ALL of us and that we should love ALL our neighbors as ourselves.
But hey, maybe that was before He became a card-carrying member of the Rethugligan party.

I am going to make my donation in the name of mosque opponent Kimberly Kelly, who proudly asserted her ignorance and bigotry in today's Tennessean, noting that she is afraid of Muslims and that the violence from Iraq and other countries could come to Murfreesboro; that if the fire at the mosque site was arson, Muslims deserved it. This rant from domafloggie is just shocking! Muslims, like Christians and Jews, believe in one God. They recognize the Old Testament as a holy book and Jesus as a prophet. Even in their empire-building days they respected Christians and Jews as fellow monotheists, Children of the Book, as they were themselves. Radical Islamists of the modern era have corrupted the teachings of the Koran and use them to justify killing infidels, much like Christian crusaders in the Middle Ages used the Christian Bible to justify killing infidels. The ignorance surrounding this debate is appalling. The Muslims in M'boro have lived there for decades and seem to have many European descendants as members of their community, i.e. converts. Playgrounds, people. A place to pray and get married and be mourned when you die.
