Voters “like my gun views,” he adds. “I want everyone to have a gun. If I think that someone doesn’t have one, maybe I’ll fine them $10.”
Marceaux also clarifies for his fans that he doesn't want to eliminate gold-finch flags. No, in that Channel 4 video he was saying gold-fringe flags.
Internet bloggers obsessed over the flag reference, mistakenly thinking he said “gold finch flags.” Because he is missing several teeth, Marceaux noted, it is sometimes difficult for people to understand him.
The article points out that while Marceaux was polling at only 1 percent last week, he's stomping his Republican rivals in Google hits—125,000 to only 76,900 for Wamp, his closest competitor.
Former Hamilton County Sheriff John Cupp, who Marceaux once threatened with a citizens' arrest, says the Internet attention “tells you how sad the news is on other things, that he looks like a ray of hope.”
Marceaux said he knows he sounded discombobulated in the video, but notes that he had to whittle down his prepared six-minute statement and that he was distracted by producers constantly reminding him how much time he had left.Marceaux, a former Marine, said he does not drink alcohol, and that his speech is sometimes hard to understand because he only has three teeth. In the end, he said, the issues are more important than his appearance.
"It's not about how I talk, or how my cowlick sits up on my hair, or anything like that," he said. "It's about doing something good for the right reason."

Stephen Colber gives Basil Marceaux the nod:
Republican Gubernatorial Primary Battle Watch '010 - Tennessee
Basil Marceaux

He has my vote, a non millionaire non politician running for office. Its a new concept. I want to know his views on illegal aliens, NAFTA, and unions
I am proud of this man. He showed America the real him. No fancy words, no attacks to other candidates, no hidden agenda. Mr. Marceaux has my vote, I firmly believe that he would upheld the interests of Tennessee and not follow a political agenda. Good job Mr. Marceaux!!!
I couldn't vote for Pedro so I just voted for Basil. Mr. Marceaux best exemplifies the intelligence, temperment and patriotism of the current Republican Party, particularly here in Tennessee. Here's hoping that Republicans will recognize and honor that. Here's also hoping that every Democrat in the state votes in the Republican primary to honor that also. (It may be their only chance to retain the Governor's seat in the fall.)
For any Republicans here, you are welcome to "refudiate" my opinions, if you care to (with concrete examples).
Let the BasilMarceaux(dot)com write-in campaign start here. Registered independent, I can't vote in the GOP primary, and my conscience won't allow me to vote McWherter in the general. It's looking like Basil's my guy.
Wow, I read his website and my heart hurts for him. He opens himself up to a great deal of people who will love to make fun of him ---they have already started on the internet. He is trying so hard...sure he is an easy target to make fun of...but when you get passed that and look at what he is really trying to say, he does have a kind heart. I am sad for his family (he has a wife and two sons) that has to see and hear all the jokes made about their husband and father. What a shame we attack and criticize a man who is trying so hard to help people. When you read what he is “trying” to say…he doesn’t have any other motives, except ensuring the safety of citizens and helping them see a brighter future---even though his plan is not going to work as well as he thinks it is….he’s still trying. Sure, he doesn't have the "best" ideas, but he is right on with this one " (he’s going to) See why dental is not in most plans a tooth aches hurt more than a back aches and no teeths depresses people" ---I work with people who have these issues and he is correct. :)--he only wants to help, bless his heart... why are we being so cruel to him? What he is saying is that he is missing teeth and he is depressed because of it, so he understands how it affects people and wants to give them dental insurance plans that can help them rise up out of the depression they may be in b/c of the way they look. There is nothing wrong with that….so he’s not stupid, he has thought a lot about how he wants to help people, most of us never get that far….he is just isn’t very articulate and some of his ideas are just wrong all the way around. But who in this world is right about everything they have ever thought or believed in? uh, NO one. It's okay to not agree with him, I don't, but to mock him, make fun of him, belittle him... that's cruel and un-called for and truly unnecessary. Only people who are already hurting inside themselves, enjoy doing and saying cruel things to others. Sure, it’s sometimes a little funny, I'll admit, I laughed, but it must be painful for him and his family to have to suffer through. Why be so mean to him? He will not win…let him try to at least make some changes, spur new ideas, invoke other leaders to look within themselves. Maybe his presence in this campaign will force other politicians to want to understand why people truly like Mr. Marceaux more than they like other candidates?? Then maybe they will be inspired to be a leader for the PEOPLE instead of selfish motivations.
To wvfii -- Tennessee does not register by party and anyone is free to vote in any primary they choose to. For the past 30 years, I have voted in Democratic primaries. Today I voted in the Republican primary without any problems whatsoever, other than the Republican pollworker who stood over my shoulder watching as I cast my vote. My choice of Basil did not appear to please her much. So if Basil's your man, by all means get down to your polling place today and cast your vote for him.
Basil Marceaux -- the tasty choice for Governor. You betcha!!
Re scarletred's: "(Basil) is just isn’t very articulate".
Well, is he or isn't he?
As I said earlier, Basil is the perfect example of the current state of affairs in the TNGOP, including how he uses the English language. Basil IS the face of the Republican Party, right down to his dental work.
We need an inventor and an importer/exporter in the Governor's mansion.

I agree with ScarletRed - no need for the cruelty. I am actually with him on many points -sure you have to unscramble most of it but there is a lot of validity there . If you fly the flag - fly it right. Be responsible with guns. If you do wrong - you get punished. We need to get phonics back in our schools. We say the Pledge each day and pray to God and say Amen. He wants to help and serve others. He doesn't feel good about taking campaign contributions - other people's money. I think I'll take a simple mind and a pure heart over a self-serving slick politician any day. Blessings to you Basil- thank you for your service to this great nation and you have a nice day too!!!

And I'm interested in learning his views on extraterrestrial aliens, blinking yellow lights, and doughnut shops. He seems to be the perfect spokesperson for the GOP.
Palin and Marceaux, 2012!!!! Just a couple of plain-speakin' people takin' it to the establishment! Yeeeeeee Haaaaaw!!!!!! This country really couldn't implode any faster...
@ET vols fan....yeah, that was funny, you got me...I typed a little fast trying to get out everything I wanted to say....and after I posted it, I noticed it. The first thing I thought when I noticed my mistake was "Lord help me (said in a very Southern way)someone eager to point out mistakes in others to make them feel better about themselves will point this out" ---the funny part is, you and everyone else could have, and probably did, figure out what I meant to say, yet you still needed to make fun. What would have been funnier is to say: @scarletred: "you is just isn't very articulate either" geeZ.
This guy kind of scares me, he holds definite Soverign Citizen views. His thoughts on gold fringe flags, added to his suits against "slavery" (traffic laws are apparently slavery) and his attempted citizens arrest of a sheriff. I think the guy needs mental health help.
While you're at it look up Basil Jr. He's running for TN House District 29. Althought he didn't get the paperwork in. oh and Basil Sr. is also running for US Congress District 3 according to the Secretay of States office.
To scarletred: In addition to being grammatically challenged, you might also want to check out your eye-sight. "ET vols fan" didn't make fun of you -- I did. And if you think I'll stop making fun of posters like yourself who illustrate so well my point, well ... just hide and watch.
Or refudiate me. Please.
@scarletred
Just because someone is a nice person doesn't mean he should be chosen for a job he obviously isn't even close to being qualified to do. Lots of homeless, mentally retarded people are nice too. Doesn't mean they get hired to be a CEO of a company.
Also, no one forced Basil to put himself in the public spotlight. He did this to himself. Get real. People are mean and will make brutal fun of anyone in the public eye, right or not, especially when given enough material. And one thing's for sure, Basil, gives plenty of fun making material.
Sure this guy is hilarious but to be honest he has some reasonable, if extreme, points. He's not you're typically slick b.s. con-man politician, but i like what he has to say. I would vote for him--and I'm not just some arrogant liberal jerk trying to make fun of this guy or say that he represents the republican party. I'm serious. I like what he says about gun control and he's right on when he says that car insurance is racketeering. Not to mention I'm tired of all the other crooks on the ballot, republican and democrat.
To BMfor governor -- Basil has already gotten my vote. Why hasn't he already gotten yours? The early voting polls are open through tomorrow, and there's always August 6. So, BM, get up from your computer screen and put your vote where your fingers are.
Basil for Governor -- he's the right man to speak for the TNGOP. You betcha!!
