Zelenik Wilts Under Questioning on Fox News

Posted by Jeff Woods on Thu, Jul 8, 2010 at 4:14 PM

Here's Lou Ann Zelenik on Fox News dodging questions about why she thinks Murfreesboro's proposed Islamic community center will train terrorists. Even these Fox anchors obviously can't stomach Zelenik's brand of religious bigotry.

Q: OK, I understand it's a big building. But it strikes me as odd. There's soccer fields. There's a swimming pool, classrooms. It doesn't strike me as a place for terror training. Is that what you are insinuating might take place in this facility? And if so, why?

Zelenik: ... This is a regional center. and the advisory board on this center, there is concerns about maybe some of the board members and their connections.

Zeleik seems to be suggesting that because there's already a mosque in Murfreesboro this new Islamic center must have some secret, nefarious purpose. Yet a quick Google search shows no fewer than 13 Baptist churches in Murfreesboro. Now, I'm not saying that they aren't all really churches, not saying that one of them might be a Christian Jihadist training facility. No, I would never suggest such a thing!

She also complains that the people whose property is near the Islamic center weren't "given the opportunity to have their voices heard." Assuming that the property is zoned for this use, I have to ask: before those Baptist churches were built, were the people who live nearby ever asked how they felt? I'm sure traffic around some of the larger churches can be a problem on Sundays. Were the people who might not want that increased weekend traffic on their streets given the opportunity to voice their opinions? Hmmm? If they're in compliance with zoning ordinances, how the neighbors feel is really kind of irrelevant. Just as it was when those Baptist churches were built.

The Other Scott is right.

What would really help is if we were to revoke 501(c)(3) status for all churches, because it's became painfully evident that way too many of them - be they Christian, Jewish or Muslim - are not complying with the whole "no substantial part of the activities... are carrying on propaganda, or otherwise attempting, to influence legislation" proscribed in the United States Internal Revenue Code. I think it could really help ameliorate this recession, improve Sunday morning traffic and cut down on sanctimonious charlatans and hatemongers parading around as men and women of the Lord.
