Zelenik Quotes MLK as She Stokes Hatred of Muslims

Posted by Jeff Woods on Thu, Jun 24, 2010 at 5:23 PM

It was only a matter of time before an unscrupulous politician tried to gain a little mileage out of all the angry opposition to the Islamic community center in Murfreesboro. Lou Ann Zelenik proudly stepped into that role today by issuing a statement that not only exploits but inflames racial prejudice and religious intolerance.

"We Americans pride ourselves on being a tolerant people, but tolerance does not require naïveté. Our nation is at war with Islamic extremists. Radical Muslims are killing our servicemen and servicewomen everyday. They say [they] want to kill us, and time and again they have backed up their words with action."

She had the spectacular gall to quote Martin Luther King, as if he would agree with her hate-filled message.

"As Martin Luther King said, 'in the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends,' so let us not be silent. Stand strong for our God, our families, and our country. God bless you all."

The crazy thing is that Zelenik, a construction company owner who can self-finance her campaign, might actually win the Republican primary in the Sixth Congressional District. If she does, she'll probably win the fall election, too. If you think Marsha Blackburn is freaky, just wait until Zelenik goes to Washington.

A Liberal "Bomb Thrower" with a keyboard is a dangerous thing. You make yourself sound ignorant. You need to study the Muslim law of intolerance for Infidels.

We NEED people to start speaking out, especially our future Congressman. Politically correctness has gotten in this mess in the first place.

Did you read your quote "all the angry opposition to the Islamic community center in Murfreesboro." How about we live in a democratic (NOT Democratic) society - where majority wins. There are more than a few people against that community center.

Go Lou Ann! Thank you for speaking up when no one else would.

So, Jeff Woods, ......KISS OUR COLLECTIVE BUTTS!! (Excuse me, it's the ONLY way I would ever use the word 'collective'....) CAUSE WE ALL KNOW COLLECTIVE = COMMUNISM=UNIONS=DEMOCRATS=ETC.3

Interestingly enough, Muslims make up 24% of the world's population. That is 1,634,948,648 Muslims out of 6,780,584,602 total people. Don't believe me? Go look it up in the CIA World Fact Book.

With that many Muslims, if they all wanted our blood, there would be a whole lot more violence. Sure, there are some radical Muslims who would like to see the "satanic west" destroyed. That is a small portion of the Muslims here on earth. Some of them hate us out of religious fervor and some of them hate us because we keep blowing their homes and families up. Go figure.

Judging all Muslims by the few would be akin to judging all Tennesseans by the comments of a few blithering idiots.

We live in a Republic, Not a Democracy. Lou Ann has forgotten the Constitution. The Majority can not trample on the Rights of the Minority.

Either we support the Constitution, ALL OF IT, or Not.

Freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of association are the first rights in our Constitution - bedrock principles for which this country was founded.

Ms. Zelinek has the right to speak her hateful sputum, and we are free to recognize it for what it is. Our Muslim neighbors have every right to gather in peace at a community center or mosque, and every true patriot would defend their right to do so.

This is America. If you want to live in a place where only your own religion is tolerated, you need to find someplace else to live.

Hysterical hypocrisy, Taste o' Puberty. LouAnn is for the constitution, well, except the parts that guarantee freedom to assemble and freedom of religion. Try again, once you wipe the spittle off your monitor.

It's obvious not all Muslims want to kill us. Karl makes a good point by stating the numbers vs. the violence. You can't just quote their religious text, because the majority of the opponents of this center are Christian, and the Christian text is shamefully violent, too.

There are non-extreme Muslims just as there are non-extreme Christians... and they appear to make up the majority in both religions. I think the center sounds like a great idea. I think the opponents are scared little crybabies. But of course, my logical opinion should be ignored to favor the religiously biased majority, right?

What a scary world we live in. I'm more fearful of politicians like Lou Ann Zelenik than I am of these so-called "radical Muslims" building a "training facility" in Middle Tennessee. This is not the first time nor the last that Ms. Zelenik has displayed her own radical and extreme view points which are misguided and xenophobic in nature. Such comments are what fuel violence in our towns, and encourage vandalism and discord in the community. Shame on all of you who mistakenly link the Al-Qaeda and terrorist groups with Muslims who are non-violent and contributing members of society. There is no room for such intolerant behavior. Ms. Zelenik's actions are just a pathetic way of gleaning support for her upcoming election by igniting fear and anger against innocent individuals. Shame on you, Ms. Zelenik for your unchristian-like behavior. Shame on you for using words from one of the most respected civil rights activists our country has ever seen. You certainly aren't looking out for anyone's rights but your own. You do not put people before your own radical and extreme politics.

Hey Jeff, while I agree with you (this time) on your take of Ms Zelenik I wonder why you don't then point out her opposite number's take on the Murfreesboro controversy. The Democrat running for Gordon's office, a former Marine named Leming, has issued a strong statement condeming Zelenik's stance while highlighting his passion for the Constitution. Oh, wait, he is a former Marine and probable gun rights supporter, so you couldn't stand the thought of showing him in a positive light could you?

I find it nearly incomprehensible, and entirely unconscionable, that anyone would quote Rev. Martin Luther King within the context of wanting to limit the civil rights of any group of people. Rev. Martin Luther King, like Christ himself, preached a message of love and tolerance. Equally as perverse is Zelenik's attempt to subvert the Constitution of the United States of America. I am glad that there is at least someone that is willing to stand up to her. Ben Leming is a retired marine and he is still fighting to protect our country and constitution. http://www.benleming.com/fullarticledispla…

I was puzzled by ms zelenik,s comments as they were full of blinde hate,so I did a little research and found the name zelenik is a serbian name associated with war crimes and genecide against bosnian muslims, perhaps hate for muslims is in her blood,or may be she is afraid some of those victims may have become TN resident and may recognize her last name,.the organizer against the center is a black man named kevin fisher who works as a jailer who considers himself fundamentalist christian running for school board, makes me wonder why my party the republican party of tn has not ask them to leave the party before they destroy what little respect we have left.
