Haslam Offers New Rationale for Candidacy: He Likes Chocolate Pie

Posted By on Tue, Jun 22, 2010 at 7:50 AM

Bill Haslam is asking us to vote for him for governor for no particular reason except that he promises to work hard and seems like a nice guy. This risk-averse strategy appears to be working so far against his opponents in the GOP primary, Two-Face and The Joker. You might think this new Haslam ad is a goofy piece of fluff, but it sums up his campaign. In the ad, David Wright says Haslam worked at his cafeteria apparently as part of some campaign gimmick when he was running for Knoxville mayor.

"He still comes in, gets his fish and sneaks a piece of chocolate pie every now and then," Wright says. "I just like him."
