During our last legislative session, you helped us to protect vital state programs for pregnant women,
infants and children that were at risk of being cut from the state budget. We are now facing those same cuts and need your help to protect them. Without these programs, the risks for poor birth outcomes such as premature birth, low-birth weight, infant mortality, and birth defects will increase. Please contact your Senators AND Representatives TODAY to ask that certain programs be protected.
The March of Dimes' sample email:
I am a March of Dimes volunteer and I am contacting Senator/Representative ______________ to ask that action be taken to protect the well-being of mothers and babies in Tennessee. In Tennessee, 14.2% of infants born each year are born prematurely. These infants are more likely to be born at low birthweight and are at an increased risk
for birth defects and death within the first year of life. Early access to prenatal care, early identification of complications, as well as, awareness and education about prevention strategies and newborn care are essential in improving the health of mothers and babies in Tennessee. We ask that the following programs be protected in our state's budget. If additional information is needed, please contact the March of Dimes office at 1-877-399-DIME.* THANK YOU for protecting the Regional Perinatal Center Grants in the budgets discussed so far. If possible, please make these funds recurring rather than non-recurring. The Regional Perinatal Care Program was established in 1975 and diagnoses and treats certain life-threatening conditions present in the perinatal period. The program funds five Regional Perinatal Centers across the state that assist pregnant women and their fetuses and newborn infants by developing a regionalized system of care, including highly specialized personnel, equipment and techniques that will decrease the existing high mortality rate and the life-long disabilities that currently prevail in surviving newborn infants. The program is funded through TennCare and provides care to over 15,000 Tennesseans each year.
* Please protect secure funding for the Governor's Office of Children's Care Coordination. The Women's Health and Infant Mortality Initiatives fund evidence-based programs to improve women's health during pregnancy and infant health during the first year of life in an effort to improve birth and infant outcomes in Tennessee. These initiatives are funded under TennCare and provide services to over 25,000 women and children each year.
We thank you for your commitment to the health of pregnant women and children in Tennessee.
Sincerely,

The March of Dimes with 30K members pays their CEO $600,00 and gets only one star of four from Charity Navigator. So let us not get carried away.
Where the money from the March of Dimes goes is a little murky and the above does not clear the air. I doubt Jeff Woods looked at anything but the fact they said something bad about Republicans.
You're right, John. The March of Dimes sucks. I can't believe I gave their email any credibility at all.
Well, hmm. Are you serious? I know that's what I think, too.
