In New TV Ad, Haslam Battles Emerging Image as Wimp

Posted By on Mon, May 17, 2010 at 10:46 AM

From the bottomless pit of Bill Haslam's supply of TV ads comes this one in which a good ol' boy vouches for the candidate's good ol' boyness. Haslam needed to make this ad because he comes across as a little goody two-shoes, as we saw in his last TV spot, and the state's many bumpkins apparently are beginning to wonder about him.

"My 93-year-old daddy always says that you can tell when somebody's had good raisin'. Bill Haslam's the real deal," says the guy in the new ad, a ranch manager from Lebanon named Thurman Mullins.

According to Haslam campaign flack David Smith, Haslam met Mullins at last year's Mule Day parade. "They struck up a conversation, and he's been a friend since then," Smith says.
