A disaster assistance center is up and running at the East Park Community Center, at the corner of Woodland and Sixth streets in East Nashville. The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily at least through Friday, and possibly into the weekend.

Services provided include:

• FEMA application assistance. Phones and computers are available for making applications, and volunteers are there to help walk applicants through the process

• Tetanus shots

• Red Cross services

• Legal services

• Social service case managers

• Counseling services

• Clothing, toiletries, bedding, food and water.

According to volunteer Angie Edwards, the center has received considerable supplies from the relief center at the Gordon Jewish Community Center in Bellevue, which is now closed. East Park is very well stocked right now. People from all over town in need of assistance are welcome.

The phone number at East Park community center is 862-8448. If the center stays open into the weekend, we will update.

The same assistance can be found at Coleman Community Center in Woodbine. Today there were more volunteers than there were people in need.
