Susan Lynn Gets into Pissing Match with Steve Gill

Why does this man hate Susan Lynn?
  • Why does this man hate Susan Lynn?
Right-wing radio hero Steve Gill has been on the attack lately against Rep. Susan Lynn for failing to follow a provision of state election campaign finance law—namely, the one requiring candidates to file papers appointing a treasurer before they start raising money. Lynn waited until April 1, then she named herself as treasurer for her bid to unseat Sen. Mae Beavers in the much-anticipated nastiest campaign of the century.

Somebody has lodged an ethics complaint against Lynn with the state over her apparent lapse in filing her paperwork on time. By law, such complaints are confidential, but the complainant apparently sent a copy to Gill. (Wasn't that helpful?) This is hardly a big deal. But Gill has been beating up Lynn on his morning show, causing her to cry out in anguish in an email to the radio blowhard.

In the email, which fell from the sky into Pith's lap a little while ago, Lynn asks: "Why are you so constantly so hard on me? Where does it come from?" Everyone knows Lynn's just as conservative as Gill. So she asks, "What is it? What is wrong?"

In his reply, which Pith also received, Gill is unrepentant. "IF you don't want to be called out, don't do stupid things, don't tell lies, and don't break the law," he writes, then proceeds to smack Lynn around for various perceived wrongs. We're beginning to think Gill's for Mae Beavers. Here's the full email exchange:

Steve,

I am at a loss to understand you. I know the election laws apply to me, and I would never think that they don't. If I have overlooked anything I will do what I need to do to make it right.

Why are you constantly so hard on me? Where does it come from? We hardly ever speak. I am one of the most conservative members of the House. You see my conservative editorials - my work at ALEC - my stand on the issue—my votes are conservative. What is it? What is wrong? I don't understand why you would treat me any differently than any other conservative member of the General Assembly.

Most sincerely,

Susan Lynn

However, you know that if I have violated the law, I will be the first to do whatever I should do to make things right.

* * *

Susan -

I am not sure how I am "constantly so hard on you." I expose the truth about you and other legislators - Republicans and Democrats — when you do things that are not what you pretend to be or when you do things that are unethical or stupid. I apply the same test to you that I apply to all other legislators. IF you don't want to be called out, don't do stupid things, don't tell lies, and don't break the law. None of this has anything to do with your personal life or behavior...it is all based on how you conduct yourself politically and in the policy arena. Nothing more
or less. The same standard I apply to other politicians at every level.

I am increasingly losing respect for the few good things you have done because you have your little minions constantly harass me on your behalf. And because I don't think voting for drivers licenses for illegals makes
you particularly conservative. Or for huge budgets with sweet little earmarks. And because you don't follow the rules, make smearing and slandering people a part of your regular playbook, etc. You take money from the taxpayers for per diem expenses while sleeping in your own house...and see absolutely nothing wrong with this behavior. Do I need to go on?

Increasingly the gap between what you pretend to be and what you actually are is widening. You have chosen to run a smear campaign against Mae (and against other good people) to advance your ambition, but I don't have to
smear you at all to help balance things out...the truth will do.

Instead of worrying about my exposure of your illegal fundraising, you should promptly make it right by returning all the illegally obtained money and apologizing publicly for failing to know and/or obey the law. But I am betting you instead try to deflect things and blame Mae, me and all your other perceived demons rather than take responsibility for what you have done, or failed to do. That is NOT being a conservative. Maybe you will surprise me and do the right thing. I would certainly encourage you to do so.

Good luck in your campaign. You are welcome to come on the show sometime and explain why raising tens of thousands of dollars illegally makes you a great fit for a promotion to the State Senate.

Steve

Obviously noone ever told Lynn not to get in a pissing match with (a) someone who buys printer's ink by the barrel/truckload or (b) someone with daily access to a 50,000 watt blowtorch radio station (and affiliates).

Who released these emails? It looks like a private exchange between Gill and Mrs. Lynn?

If Rep. Lynn sent the email from her State account it's not considered a private exchange. But that's beside the point....the point is Crazy Lynn thinks she's above the law. Instead of admitting the mistake she would rather look like a victim, cry about it and make everyone feel sorry for her. Suck it up Lynn, it's pathetic! You're making women of this state look like a bunch of cry babies. Just because Speaker Williams gave you a committee chairmanship to shut you up doesn't mean Steve Gill is going to give you your own radio show or anything else you didn't earn nor deserve. The real world doesn't work like that honey......

Hey scottienell. It's legal for the complainant to keep a copy and release it. The important question here is whether the complaint has merit. Judging by all the dodge tactics it appears to be accurate because her supporters keep trying to kill the messenger instead of addressing when they plan to return the money that was illegally raised.

Also, referring to Susan's email, it doesn't seem to bother her that Ralph Bristol puts her an the radio every week and their company, which engages in lobbying, illegally gave her jewelry on the air last year; and Ralph never puts her opponent on the air. So it's ok with Susan if Ralph Bristol is blatantly one-sided but Steve Gill is forbidden to even report something that Susdan doesn't agree with. Her hypocrisy knows no bounds!!

Steve Gill and Al Sharpton share the same lust for the kill. Gill isn't concerned with anything but using Susan's money faux paus for all the mileage therein. And he'll flail her with it until it isn't interesting any more. Has nothing to do with her politics, positions, perceptions, etc. Rather, with his own ratings and demographics. So he's wrapped himself in righteousness, and unfortunately for Susan, seized the opportunity she's provided him to rise above. Declaring his own superior character and morality. Just like Sharpton did with Imus.

Susan is on the horns of a difficult dilemma. What to do? Apologize? Pay the money back? (It should be possible to arrange to do that and then accept the same contributions back again -- maybe.) For sure, her hand wringing e-mail didn't do her any good. She should have taken the high road somehow, rather than approaching Gill in the attitude of a supplicant. He's just done the same thing with her as Sharpton did with Imus. And who won that exchange? Huh?

Too bad Susan. You've just made things worse for yourself. Toughen up, honey. This is the real world. Where goodness and mercy don't amount to any more than tomorrows headlines.

I listened to every minute that Steve Gill "attacked" Susan Lynn on Saturday. He reassured his audience several times that he was not in any way attacking or aiming at Lynn’s' personal life or choices. I do not see how he could be any clearer.
Is Lynn this ignorant? Don't break the law and we won't talk bad about you. It’s really that simple. And, if you cannot win an election by yourself then certainly do not bring everyone else's skeletons out of the closet unless you want your own revealed.

Here’s one for you Susan Lynn: "The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful." Proverbs 12:22
But, I guess since your just SO religious I didn't have to tell you that. "That’s from the Bible, its a good book, you should try reading it." Thank you Mr. Stephenson.
Susan, don't smear, evade, or distort the truth. Try the little thing you call Christianity.

More power to Steve Gill!

These are the issues. They have been the issues and they will always be with Susan Lynn.

I am also presenting the point that this is not the first time she has broken the law with campaigning without a treasurer and too early. She is a Representative and she is running for the Senate...Politics are nothing new to her, she is obligated and expected to know and withhold the law. Events like this have no excuse. She must assume that the rest of the world is messed up and she is the victim.

Trying Christianity sounds good. Maybe for her personal life. But politics and the Christian life don't exist in the same realm. And no politician of my knowledge has ever succeeded in joining the two.

The Lord delights, detests, loves, helps, hinders, condemns etc. ad infinitum. Big deal. That's there. Heaven. I don't live there. I live here where all of it doesn't matter one damn whit.

As a believer I'm told I'm forgiven. And I'll stand on Paul's pronouncement that all things are legal. May not be good for me, but legal. And I don't spend one moment worrying about whether I have pleased HIM or not. I just don't give a shit. Got too much to be concerned with making myself content in this world. I'll stand on what I've been taught. If it's wrong, I'll find out soon enough. And then HE can shove it up HIS eternal butt.

Politics and personal life do go together. And, if Lynn does not want her personal life and faith talked about then she should keep her mouth shut.

This is simply Karma, Susan. You have grossly mistreated very conservative people in this state and spread wild false rumors and gossip on good people. Now you cannot complain when the truth comes out on you. I guarantee this would never have happened if Susan Lynn confined her comments about other conservatives to factual comments.

Gill is obviously being fed lies by the BeaCalls. All of his points are erroneous to the point of being slanderous.

Susan didn't vote for drivers licenses for illegals. And, speaking of money, Steve's girl Mae also takes per diem cash (nothing wrong with that, but let's be fair) and she uses her campaign contributions for her personal expenses.

All of this is coming from the BeaCalls. It's the sort of below-the-belt campaigning that Mae is infamous for. The complaint is completely bogus.

I am amazed that a bunch of conservative minded people want to get in the sewer and start slinging feces at each other. Ya'll sound like a bunch of Jackson/Kennedy commie pinko radicals... knowing full well that the reall crazies, the Dumbocrats, are have a field day with this catfight, loving every minute of it. If you keep it up the undecided and the conservative democrats are going to move to the left and we lose what ground we've gained. There are wrongs and rights on both sides of this situation. Don't contribute to the problem, don't spread hatred and discord in our own ranks. Take aim at the real enemy, "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition." The last thing we need is Sam Hatcher as our State Senator.

Steve Gill is known not to be truthful. Back when he was on WLAC he made a statement that a "SGT MARTIN" from Tennessee sent him a email concerning the IRAQ WAR. I was on my way to airport when Gill read the so-called email. About 3 hours later in Kansas City I heard the same exact statement from another talk show host. Only this SGT MARTIN was from Missouri. Steve is just not very reliable.
