Right-Wing Threats of Violence Intensify: Does Cohen Share the Blame?

Rachel Maddow reported last night on the increasing threats of violence from the far right. Here's one she didn't talk about. Congressman Steve Cohen now has been threatened by someone claiming to belong to the tea party movement. This comes like night follows day after Cohen compared the tea party to the KKK. The email to Cohen says, in part:

"If our tea parties had hoods, we would burn your ass on a cross on the White House lawn."

In an editorial this morning, meanwhile, the Commercial Appeal criticizes Cohen for goading nutjobs like whoever sent that. In fact, Cohen seems to have been asking for this threat. It's a great way to snag some media attention. But it's a little hard for Democrats to claim the high road if they're helping incite the hate.

Comparing Tea Party members to Klan members without robes is like saying all supporters of President Barack Obama are socialists. It's hyped-up, exaggerated imagery that only adds more fuel to already hyped-up discourse being spouted by some Tea Party members.
