Sen. Bob Corker is in the news today, making a splash on Politico for an unusually unseemly attempt to shake down contributors on visits to New York and Chicago next month.

His reelection campaign offered a meal with Corker for $10,000 and tickets to "small meetings" with the senator for $5,000. At same time, of course, he's helping negotiate a bill to overhaul regulations on Wall Street.

"It's the ultimate cynical move," says the lobbyist who tipped Politico to the fundraising pitch. "I lobby the Banking Committee. What am I supposed to do -- say no?"

Corker immediately denounced the fundraising email, calling it "grotesque and inappropriate," and denying any knowledge of it. It was written by his fundraiser, Kim Kaegi, a Tennessee Republican star.
