Hargrove / Sports Creep Who Peeped ESPN Beauty at Vandy Marriott Shamed and Sentenced

Back in September 2008, a sweaty-palmed Peeping Tom -- who also, I can't help but point out, used to be an insurance executive -- recorded video of ESPN's Erin Andrews through a hacksaw-altered peephole in Milwaukee and at the Vandy Marriott. He then cast the nude footage into the bottomless chasm that is the Internet.
Michael David Barrett, 48, has been sentenced in Los Angeles. Consequences for being a gross, middle-aged lech: 30 months in a federal prison. And a courtroom excoriation by the object of his lust. "You violated me and you violated all women. You are a sexual predator, a sexual deviant and they should lock you up," Andrews said, according to the AP.
There may be other forthcoming charges, a sentencing memo says, alluding to 16 other women who've been videoed by the voyeur.
In this case, it is difficult to identify the most disturbing aspect of the story. Is it the image of some heavy-breathing weirdo's cross-country pilgrimage of obsession? Or is it the fact that the Vandy Marriott actually booked him in a room next to Andrews upon request?
Inside Edition checked the hotel out last October to see if sportsvixen stalking could be repeated with Lisa Guerrero. According to the report that followed, when asked by another Inside Edition correspondent, the Vandy Marriott declined to set him up in a room next to Guerrero but confirmed that she was a guest and her room was a floor below his.

The story on Ms. Andrews' ordeal is horrific, but the photo caption of the priceless breaking-the-cinematic-screen smirk of John Belushi in 'Animal House' accompanying it is still a classic after all these years. One just doesn't know how to react to the sheer creepiness of voyeurism juxtaposed to remembering laughing hard at that movie's depicture of it with a light-hearted boys-will-be-boys attitude in that scene.
