Sen. Lamar Alexander, in this interview, refuses to repudiate any element of the tea party movement, including the John Birch Society. (H/t Kleinheider.) "I really don't know how to answer a question like that," Alexander says. That's our Lamar!
We were about to launch into a tirade against Alexander for kowtowing to the obsessed and deranged, but then we remembered: For political cowardice in dealing with truthers and birthers and tin-foil hatters, there's no topping Bob Corker.
Recall that our junior senator went on Hardball and refused under questioning from Chris Matthews to take a stand on whether our president is legitimate. Corker said variously that "it appears to me that our president is a citizen" and "it looks to me like he's a citizen."
Then at a town maul on health care, he wouldn't contradict a woman who observed the president thinks white people are terrorists, and "you could very well end up on a list for a mandatory abortion."
So just FYI, if you're keeping score at home, Alexander's still got some catching up to do with Corker.
