When Elliot Lash jumped to his death in an atrium at Saint Thomas Medical Center in December, the story of his gruesome death, and later revelations that he was a pedophile, were all over the news. But another aspect of the tragic saga -- how Lash's wife Sheri managed to overlook all of the glaring warning signs -- went untold. In this week's Scene cover story, Sheri Lash shares her heartbreaking story with reporter Brantley Hargrove. Lash is unflinchingly honest, admitting that her love for Elliot Lash led her to ignore the horrendous clues to his secret life that were staring her in the face. Disturbing as it is, Sheri Lash's story is a compelling and eye-opening look into how love and dependence can cause someone to turn a blind eye to even the most conspicuous red flags.

It could be love and dependance, or it could be that she put her own need not to be alone above the well-being of her own children. And other people's children. Rampant emotional immaturity would be my viewpoint. I feel for her children and fear for their future with this parent still in charge. We all turn a blind eye to many of our partner's imperfections, but this was so much more than that...it was denial and delusion on a much grander and more dangerous scale.

I read this article and must say it was scary to say the least. How could a person not have paid attention to the clues? I am not so sure but I think I would have to stand is this woman's shoes to know for sure. I am also unable to sympathize but after reading the story again I am not so sure that sympathy is being sought after. If this woman was looking for sympathy I dont think she would have put her personal life out there. I am the son of a woman who stayed with a man that beat her and her children for 30 years. One day he was accused of cheating, gambling, and drugs ended his own life. Interestingly enough later peices started falling into place about our toturous childhood and it was actually a relief once he was gone. There was no room left for manipulation by him and he was caught.
I admire and commend this woman for finally standing up and turning her husband in after 6 years of marriage. I wonder if he actually loved her or iif he was seeking her out because she had two young boys. Sad story either way.

Physical/Corporal Punishment of Children in Schools is Legal and Practiced in several Tennessee School Districts. Tennessee State Law does NOT require Parental Consent or Notification for Children to be Physically punished at school. Physical/Corporal Punishment is where school employees HIT Children with WOODEN PADDLES to deliberately inflict physical pain intended to punish them.
I am unable to protect my 3 children from witnessing/overhearing classmates being threatened with Physical Punishment (teachers keep wooden paddles in desk drawers and display them as a threat) and Paddled just outside class for minor infractions such as not turning in homework. Then the battered child is further humiliated by immediately facing classmates with red, tear-stained face when they take their seat. My husband and I made a written/verbal presentation to our school board members in April 2008, during "National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month" to Demand they Prohibit Physical/Corporal Punishment of Children in our schools, and to date, 2/2010, we have received no response, no letter, no phone call, they have IGNORED US! U.S. Federal Government and Tennessee State Government Officials have informed us that the very important matter of our children's health and safety in schools is a "Local Issue" left up to UNRESPONSIVE, UNACCOUNTABLE, INDEPENDENT, AUTONOMOUS School District Governing Boards! Corporal Punishment of Children in Schools is ILLEGAL in 30 States!
It is ILLEGAL to beat prisoners!
Corporal Punishment of Children in Schools puts School Districts at risk for lawsuits due to paddling injuries.
February 22, 2010 a Federal Lawsuit was filed in Miss. seeking to ban Corporal Punishment in Schools and also seeking a Declaration that Corporal Punishment in Schools is UNCONSTITUTIONAL!
