Bill Haslam's first TV ad premieres today across the state. His campaign won't say how much he's spending, but his rival Zach Wamp claims it's more than $1million. Wamp contends his victory in the Jackson straw poll scared Haslam and prompted him to hit the airwaves.
"Mr. Haslam can spend whatever he wants out of the family fortune to help his campaign, but he needs to know that this governor's race is not for sale this year. More so this time than in any time in recent memory, big money is not going to be the determining factor in this election because the people are sick of all of the big money and the big special interests, like the oil companies, calling all of the shots."
