During an online chat session Monday afternoon, New Yorker senior editor and political writer Hendrik Hertzberg fielded a question about Harold Ford Jr.'s flirtation with an Empire State Senate bid. Hertzberg's reply is the epitome of pith.

Yeah. The unquestionable savvy passing Mr Hertzberg's lips is easy to agree with, to the extent of his pronouncement about Ford's delusional condition. That far, I totally agree. However, right or left of Kirsten Gillibrand doesn't seem to me to be the fundamental issue for Poor Harold.
Harold is an interloper. From Tennessee. In New York State for God's sake. And Upstate New York redneck voters who might actually agree with Mr Ford's political philosophy really don't count. They are substantially outnumbered by urban liberal thinkers up there who mostly agree with Big Apple Liberalism and wouldn't under any circumstances vote for Poor Harold: lacking as he does power or charisma with which he might overcome Gillibrand – and Schumer.
He's doomed. Sadly. For himself, and for ex-patriots such as moi who would be entertained to the max by a true 'Suhthuhnuh' kicking political ass up there where I used to live. (As you might have discerned, my breeding is Upstate NY redneck.) Without true glamor, or positional power such as is possessed by Hilary, Poor Harold cannot win. And he has neither.
Goodbye Bubba. Go find yourself a Caribbean Island to explore.
