Tea Partiers Pressuring Palin to Cancel Convention Speech

On second thought, they can keep that media pass. It's looking like the tea party convention will flop. First, Marsha Blackburn says she's thinking about pulling out as a speaker. Then Michele Bachmann reconsiders. Now, tea partiers are racheting up the pressure on Sarah Palin to drop out. There are unsold tickets and activists demanding refunds. If Palin shows up to speak, she might look out on a half-empty banquet hall. When she winks and delivers one of her patented can't-miss attacks on the liberal media or the socialist Democrats, all she'll hear in response is the clinking of silverware. Some tea partiers think she ought to call in sick to avert a PR embarrassment.

"In her contract she is allowed to send a representative if she can't make it if she's sick or something. Maybe she'll come down with the flu," says Tony Shreeve, an activist who quit the convention's steering committee to protest high-priced tickets.

He adds that Tea Partiers have written her letters pleading with her not to come because they believe that reports of a glitzy, high-priced dinner would hurt the real Tea Party movement, which prides itself on its thrifty, grassroots image. Meanwhile, Kilmarx reports that Nashville activists have contacted the Washington Speakers Bureau, which represents Palin, with concerns. And she says Tea Party activists in Tennessee have been trying to reach Palin through the media to let her know that Tea Party Nation does not represent the majority of Tea Party groups in the state. (Of the 42 Tennessee Tea Party groups, only one is officially supporting the convention.)
Update: Blackburn cancels. She says she still loves tea partiers, of course, but claims the House ethics committee has advised her against appearing at the convention. Pith doesn't understand why the committee would give such advice. Is pandering unethical now? Update II: Bachmann cancels too. Palin insists she's still coming.

Maybe they could James O'Keefe to fill in for Palin. If he isn't in jail, he may be looking for something to do.

By the time this all shakes out, this tea party will have about as many attendees as the ones my grandmother hosted in her parlor in Columbus GA in 1940s. Although her guests were a bit more intelligent.

Tea Party nation is big on 2nd amendment rights,I spoke to 2 managers at the O Hotel last night, both said gun permit holders will not be allowed to bring weapons in the Jack Daniel's Saloon, or Fuse. Maybe they should have this shindig in Alaska, or some church in Texas, where you're not welcome unle with a video cam just to look and laugh at the loonies, gonna be a hoot.

Sarah Palin needs to disappear off the political radar ASAP. She is so vastly unquailifed for the office of POTUS that it boggles ones mind that someone would actually want her in office. If she runs.... it will be one of worst defeats in history. If by some weird miracle she was to get elected... her Presidency would be an epic disaster. GOP will be better off once Palin falls off the radar and we can rally behind someone that is truly qualifed to be POTUS. Someone that will defeat Obama in 2012. Palin will only guarantee Obama is re-elected in 2012. Sarah you keep saying how much you love America.... that you would do anything to help.... fine... do us all a favor and announce that you will not run in 2012, return to Alaska and fade into history.
