Hey, remember, we're talking about the same party willing to spend itself tens of thousands of dollars into arrears to make sure that an upstart Democrat would unseat a safe incumbent Democrat in District 22.
Maybe if TNDP didn't engage in the Kurita ouster, Mike Turner would be in charge of the House majority caucus.
"Imagine what could have been" indeed.
Imagine what her campaign might have been like if her name weren't Adrienne Pakis-Gillon?
Just imagine what would have happened if the district wasn't designed(by Democrats) to be unwinnable for her. You have to be ignorant to think that any thing less than about a 10-1 spending advantage would have made that race competitive. People need to look at the voter files before that start talking.
I understand slamming a creepy skank like Palin, but that was silly.
Waste of money, waste of time.
The TNDP is as worthless and out of touch as most Dems seem to be. Stupid songs will not help the Democrats hold on to or gain offices. Only doing the will of the base, without compromise, will keep Democrats in power.
As of now, they are reeling from the effects of kissing so much Right/Center ass. They ignored the warnings and are paying for it.
Songs won't help. But keeping promises and acting like courageous American statespeople just might.
Well, Woods, that's obviously why you couldn't expect the TNDP to write a pro Adrienne Pakis-Gillon song. It's nearly impossible to rhyme Pakis-Gillon.
TNDP couldn't, but someone at Warner-Chappell could.
The race is still on with Pakis-Gillon!
Makin' a killin' with Pakis-Gillon!
Nothing more thrillin' than a vote for Pakis-Gillon!
(Harlan Howard, I am not. Point remains, surely there's someone in *this* effin' town that could pull it off. That is, if TNDP hadn't burned every available bridge with the industry folks circa 2004. /ducks)
A rhyme for Pakis-Dillon? Try Bob Dylan, if he's willin'.
Seriously, Aunt B, what the hell are you talking about? The party is trying to raise money here with this tea party joke. So then it could spend this money on candidates, right? As for Pakis-Gillon, it would have been stupid to spend a nickel on her campaign. She never had a chance.
Oh, please, Woods. "Oh, I know how we can raise buttloads of money! Let's make fun of Sarah Palin in song!"
What next? A limerick disparaging the memory of Jack Kemp?
If they make back the money on this it cost them to set up that website, I will buy you a beer.
Was the TNDP website a dumb idea: probably
Was Aunt B suggesting that Pakis-Gillon's chances were anything other than joke a dumb idea: absolutely
It doesn't matter if her chances lay somewhere closer to "none" on a scale of "slim to none." She ran as a Democrat; she deserved some level of Democratic support.
What level? Hard saying. But certainly as much as some Sarah Palin parody got.
Pakis-Gillon got at least some press releases as well as some coordinated GOTV calls from across the state on and around election day, there could have been more, I don't know. The value of those GOTV calls alone was probably worth more than the whole stupid tea party circus website.
What more could you want for a candidate that had zero chance barring Jesus himself going door to door for her.
Woods, oh god, I hope not, since fulfilling my part of the bargain would necessitate going downtown, which would mean paying to park, which I refuse to do. Someone needs to agitate for free downtown parking for Davidson county residents.
RBT, well, when you concede the small races, you can't act surprised when you have trouble recruiting candidates in those races.
But see . . . the song would not have had to rhyme with Pakis-Gillon, it just would have needed to rhyme with (and denigrate) Kelsey.
But as Woods insinuated: cute websites and songs are a dime a dozen . . . winning in what was designed to be the only Republican district in West TN is very costly. Also, I think you mistakenly believe that more Democratic cowbell is what is needed to win that or any election . . .
You obviously think money grows on trees, young lady. Well . . . it doesn't.
And Chip Forrester can't raise any anyway.
I think B's point is very clear. You have to sell a candidate these days. Only us Libs vote for principals. The rest of the Democrats vote for characters like the Repigs do.
The TNDP could have made Pakis-Gillon an interesting candidate with a little money and some creativity. Neither of which they have much of unfortunately. But no effort was made.
And B is correct. That stupid site will lose money. Being out of touch with the Dem base, the TNDP doesn't realize that it's Republicans who are attracted to garbage like that.
If the TNDP has any balls at all, which they don't, they would attack Sara Palin (or whoever) on an open news source so the world can hear it.
Stand up, be honest, tell the people that Palin is an idiot who is bad for the country. Then ask for donations.
I cut them off a long time ago. But a good attack on a piece of Republican crap might just help my hand find a pocket.
....for reasons other than personal pleasure.
The stupidest part of anything Aunt B had to say was about parking in downtown. Despite the worst of intentions of a minority of residents, Nashville is a real, live city. In real, live cities, you oftentimes pay to park. Get over it. I for one am glad that we charge for parking downtown if it keeps her crabby ass away. It also keeps away the Brentwood types too so I'm really not seeing any downside here. For the record there's a lot of free parking downtown but I'm not telling where or when it is.
Ha ha ha ha ha. OF COURSE you're my nephew.
We should take a survey of how many women would be willing to park, say, at the big lot next to the capitol, which is free on evenings and weekends, after dark to then walk by herself to Brandon's to have a drink.
Even when I park on the other side of the Frist to grab drinks at The Flying Saucer, at least half the time, when I go to leave, someone will offer to walk me to my car.
I usually turn them down, but the message is clear--it's not safe for a woman to walk very far by herself to her car.
So, please, gloat some more about how you know where all the free parking is.
It's so charming when you rub your ability to move freely through the city with the belief that your relatively safe in the faces of those of us who can't.
This probably isn't the post to mention it but since the topic of free parking has come up, let me once again remind everyone that the parking meters at The Hill Center in Green Hills are FAKE not real. The money goes to a charity of the Hill Co.'s choosing (in this case, the YMCA). The Hill Center is private property from Hillsboro Pike to Hillsboro Circle. Metro will not give you a ticket for not putting money in the meter.
I only mention this because I keep seeing people frantically scrabbling for change to put in the meters because Hill Co. has put up these fake parking meters. And although they finally got around to placing a small notice that the money goes to charity no one ever reads it. It's on the back of the meter, not the front where you put your money.
So, consider this your friendly tip for the day. I don't know why Hill Co. decided they needed to deter people from shopping in their development by installing fake parking meters. Green Hills Mall does not charge for parking. I think it's a little skeevy, myself.
