Morning Roundup: Council Falls Into Line on Big Day for Karl Dean

The big day is finally here, the day the Metro Council takes its anticlimactic vote for the Music City Center. Megan Barry, Lonnell Matthews Jr., Jerry Maynard and Vivian Wilhoite are all on board now, and even the "skeptical" Jason Holleman might vote yes. ... Nashville's Priorities collects 8,300 signatures by Nashvillians demanding a public referendum. President Obama plans to ask Congress for an extra $1.35 billion to expand his signature education program, the Race to the Top. ... The program has run into opposition in Texas, Montana, and elsewhere but Tennessee is among 40 states rushing to complete applications by today's deadline. ... Community college presidents object to the governor's main higher education reform--tying state funding to graduation rates. Harold Ford, trying to come off like a regular guy, says he gets foot scrubs, not pedicures, because of severe athletes' foot. ... Frist heads to Haiti on a medical mission. ... The state Supreme Court rules a criminal defendant who assaulted his attorney should not have been punished by being forced to represent himself at trial. ... Herenton says he's pumped about running for Congress.
