Here's some news to make you proud (or nauseated, depending on your political views) of your Music City roots. Johnston & Murphy shoe company, a division of Nashville-based Genesco Inc., has designed some shoes especially for President Obama. According to the company's press release, J&M has "designed a truly unique pair of shoes to complement the president's sharp and sophisticated fashion sense." As for the fashion-challenged staff of Pith, who are typically clad in New Balance sneakers, jeans and T-shirts, all we can say is, "They look pretty cool, as far as dress shoes go." In other words, if we had to go to a wedding or something, and thus were forced to dress up, we could live with this shoe option. It's sleek, tapered, elegant ... classy yet sassy.

Because of "President Obama's outspoken admiration and respect for Abraham Lincoln," the company has also designed a pair of boots for the president inspired by the pair that the company made for Lincoln back in 1861. In fact, the company has custom-made a pair of shoes for every president since Millard Fillmore back in 1850, so Republicans, don't get your panties in a wad. J&M is a bipartisan presidential shoemaker. And it's about the only bipartisan thing in this nation right now. Of course, this quote from the press release may cause tea partiers' blood to boil:
"For two men alike in so many ways, Johnston & Murphy felt it only natural to extend the similarities between Presidents Lincoln and Obama from their heads to their feet."
And best of all, you'll soon be able to own a pair of shoes or boots just like the president's! Starting this fall, a collection of shoes inspired by Obama's selection will be available in J&M stores and online. And where are these shoes, a tribute to the president of the United States, made? You guessed it -- Italy!

J&M has made special shoes for presidents for many years. I was talking to the daughter of one their execs who had to fit Lyndon Johnson while he was on the john, something he often did to people who he wanted to intimidate.

I would prefer the Lincoln boot if it had a pointer toe. The Victorian-meets-mod styling would then be indicative of not just Lincoln and the Emancipation Proclamation, but the Civil Rights struggles 100 years later in the 1960s.
Duh.

Good morning. I'm having trouble with your blog. I can't see the pictures. Is anyone else having this problem? I have been having trouble with my computer lately, so I'm not sure if its my equipment or if its your blog. Thanks!
